DENTON, Texas (September 3, 2016) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals volleyball team completes their opening weekend of play facing Colorado State University – Pueblo Saturday morning, followed by facing the Texas Woman's University, who serves as host of the Hilton Garden Inn Classic. LCU went 1-1 Friday, defeating Harding before falling to Texas A&M Commerce.
CSU-Pueblo | Saturday, Sept. 3 | 9 a.m.
- This meeting will mark the second consecutive meeting the two teams have made in the opening weekend of the season. LCU, who has a 3-1 all-time series advantage over the Thunderwolves, defeated CSU-Pueblo 3-1 last season in Canyon, Texas. CSU-Pueblo's only win over LCU was on Sept. 1, 1989.
- CSU-Pueblo is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, where they are preseason picked eighth in the conference.
- The T-wolves are 0-2 after falling Friday to Texas A&M Commerce (3-1) and Texas Woman's (3-2).
- Mariangel Perez is a two-time All-RMAC selection and is a preseason All-Conference selection this season. She produced 12 double-doubles last season.
- CSU-Pueblo went 11-16 last season, going 9-9 in conference play.

- Texas Woman's University is 3-1 all-time against LCU. The two teams have not met since Oct. 7, 1988. LCU's lone win over the Pioneers came on Sept. 5, 1983.
- The Lions are preseason picked third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll.
- TWU opened the season Friday with wins over Newman (3-0) and CSU-Pueblo (3-2) for a 2-0 start.
- The Pioneers are coming off of a 24-8 season in 2015 with a 12-4 mark in conference play. They were 13-3 at home.
GAME NOTES
- With their opening win Friday, LCU improved to 26-12 all-time in season openers and 10-3 in season openers under the direction of Lawrence. LCU has won eight of their nine prior season openers.
- The Lady Chaps are coming off an 18-10 season record from 2015. LCU went 4-4 in neutral site games last season.
- LCU is preseason picked second in the Heartland Conference preseason poll. They joined Arkansas – Fort Smith as the only teams receiving first place vote(s).
- Channing Castleberry and Emily Hanaway are each averaging at least 10 kills per match through the first two matches. Hanaway has a .304 attack percentage.
- Mallory Powell averaged 10.3 assists per set Friday with a combined 82 assists on the day.
