LADY CHAPS FLIGHT DECK
• Lubbock Christian University closes out their 2017 regular season schedule Saturday afternoon against Heartland Conference rival Newman University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at LCU Soccer Field.
• The LCU women are 4-1-2 at home this season and have outscored opponents by an 11-2 margin at LCU Soccer Field.
• Saturday's contest will serve as the Lady Chap's "Senior Day," as seven Lubbock Christian players will be recognized for their LCU careers.
STORY LINES
• The Lady Chaparrals are in dire need of not only a win against the Jets, but a victory of two goals or more. A one-goal win would tie LCU with Newman in conference standings, but the Jets would win in a head-to-head and move into the Heartland Conference Tournament in the fourth-place position. A win by two-goals or more would give Lubbock Christian a tie within the standings, but the Lady Chaps would advance to the conference tournament as the four-seed over Newman based on scoring aggregate.
• Lubbock Christian has been held scoreless in their past three matches, the most recent being a 0-0 draw against Rogers State Thursday afternoon.
• As a team, LCU is averaging 1.29 goals per game on 15.4 shots per contest.
Claudia Sanchez leads the Lady Chap roster with 37 shots and four goals for the season.
• The Lady Chaparrals have qualified for the Heartland Conference Tournament for the past two consecutive seasons (2015 and 2016). Their 2015 campaign marked their first year of Heartland post season eligibility after finishing the transition into NCAA Division II status.
SCOUTING NU
• Newman's Rosa Urista-Chico ranks second in the conference with 10 goals in 17 matches played. Urista-Chico is averaging 3.59 shots per game and has recorded 61 shots on the year.
• The Jets are riding a three-match win streak that was extended in a 7-2 victory over Oklahoma Christian University Thursday night.
• Newman has captured a 10-5-2 overall record this season but stands 5-3-1 in road matches.
• As a squad, NU has averaged 2.06 goals per game while compiling 46 goals for the season. The Newman defense has allowed 24 goals this season for a 1.39 goals against average.
• Ashley Sweetnam has been the Jets lone keeper combining for 1,553:29 played this season. Sweetnam has registered 48 saves on her way to a .667 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY WITH NU
Lubbock Christian's meeting with Newman will be the second of the season and the seventh all-time in a series, which stretches back to the 2013 campaign. Despite winning the first four consecutive games in the rivalry, LCU has dropped the prior two contests against the Jets. Their most recent defeat came in a 1-0 result in Wichita, Kan. earlier this season (Sept. 28).
