Box Score 2 GOODWELL, Okla. (April 13, 2017) – No.8 Lubbock Christian University needed just three hits to win their Heartland Conference series opener at Oklahoma Panhandle State, as Chaparrals starting pitcher
Ricky Contreras pitched a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win before the Chaps exploded for 23 hits in the second game for a 16-2 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep Thursday at Aggies Field. The second game was highlighted by a cycle from LCU's
Caleb Koedyker.
The opening game was a pitchers duel between LCU's Contreras and Australian southpaw Samuel Beattie of OPSU. The game's loan run was unearned, as a
Josh Narvaiz reached on a single, advanced to second base on a passed ball and third base on an error in the third inning. He scored on a ground out by

Contreras faced six batters over the minimum in his complete game shutout victory. He allowed five hits and was able to force a foul out to the final batter in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Aggies had the bases loaded. Koedyker's cycle came in LCU's 16-2 win. Koedyker went 4-for-6 with four RBI, three runs and 10 total bases. He knocked out the hard part (triple) in the fourth inning and continued on with a double in the fifth inning, single in the eighth inning and a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
The triple by Koedyker in the fourth inning was part of a three-run inning, which had LCU leading 4-0. They continued in the fifth inning with three more runs, and a
Jaime Bustamante two-run single helped extend the lead to 7-1. Narvaiz drove in a pair of runs in the sixth inning and pushed the lead to 9-1. Koedyker's single in the eighth inning made the score 10-1 and served as a prelude to a six-run ninth inning. Thirteen batters went to the plate in the ninth inning and LCU combined for six runs on six hits. A pair of the runs were scored off a
Tony Reyes double and a trio came off the bat of Koedyker's home run to centerfield. Chase Graf homered for OPSU in the bottom of the ninth inning to close the game's scoring.
Bustamante joined Koedyker with a four-hit performance (4-for-6). He had one of five doubles hit by the Chaps in the game. LCU produced 23 hits in the game, coming one off the season high. The Chaps even stranded 14 runners.
Daniel Crooks had all the run support he needed to claim his fifth win of the season (5-1). He went six innings and allowed one run off three hits, while striking out seven batters.
Christian Buatte recorded a three-inning save for LCU (his first career save) and allowed one run off two hits in the appearance. OPSU went through six pitchers. Adrian Lopez suffered the loss (0-7) allowing seven runs off 11 hits in 4.1 innings.
