SHUT DOWN
JR McDermott and Tyler Day combined to hold No.11 Lubbock Christian University to three hits and No.3 Colorado Mesa University defeated the Chaparrals 3-2 Saturday evening in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament at Foster Field. LCU is 1-1 in the tournament, opening the tournament Thursday with a 2-1 win over West Texas A&M before Saturday's tilt with Colorado Mesa. LCU's last three games have ended in one-run decisions.

WILD ENDING
Tournament host Angelo State enters Sunday 1-1 after falling to West Texas A&M 2-1 in a game ending with a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. ASU opened the tournament an 11-6 win over Arkansas Fort Smith.

IF LCU WINS
If LCU wins, LCU would advance to Sunday's 7 p.m. game against Colorado Mesa. If LCU is to go 2-0 on the day, then there would be three teams remaining with a 1-1 record heading into Monday's final day.

IF LCU LOSES
If the Chaps fall, it would bring their season to an end at 38-16.

STREAKS
Brandon Rix and Chase Simmons each lead LCU with an active three-game hit streak. Jaime Bustamante enters reaching safely in 12 consecutive games. The streak is the longest of the season for Bustamante, who has an active streak of six consecutive NCAA regional games reaching base safely.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS IN SAN ANGELO
- LCU is 3-3 all-time in NCAA postseason and regional competition.
- With Saturday's loss, LCU fell to 4-10 all-time in games played at Foster Field.
- Jaime Bustamante is LCU's active hits leader in NCAA postseason play with five hits. JP Rousseau is LCU's all-time NCAA postseason hits leader with eight (he was 8-for-17 last season).
- Ryan Rogers leads LCU in San Angelo, with a .500 average (2-for-4) at the plate. He has a .625 on base percentage.
- The Chaps are hitting .167 as a team in the tournament, with a staff ERA of 2.00. The Chaps have been held to 10 hits in the tournament and five have been infield singles.
- LCU has suffered 26 strikeouts at the plate in the tournament, but it comes with reason, as the two prior starting pitchers faced were West Texas A&M's Marshall Kasowski (USA Baseball Golden Spikes Watch List member and All-Region selection) and CMU's McDermott (2016 RMAC Pitcher of the Year).

ALL-TIME SERIES

The two teams met four times last season, with LCU winning two-of-three games in a three-game series at Hays Field before meeting in Grand Junction, Colo. on May 21, 2016 (ASU defeated LCU 6-2). LCU has lost five straight games to ASU.
