Lady Chaps Return Home for Bout with Rattlers

LCU 3-1 in Lubbock This Season

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (6-4-1, 3-2-1) vs.
ST. MARY'S (4-6-0, 2-3-0)
Thursday, October 17
LCU Soccer Field – Lubbock, Texas

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • Of the seven games remaining on Lubbock Christian's schedule, six are against teams with losing records so far this season. Only West Texas A&M remains on the schedule with more wins than losses
  • The Lady Chaps will play two of their final five home games of the 2019 season this weekend, having posted a 3-1 record at the LCU Soccer Field so far this season
  • Tied for the Lone Star Conference lead in total points this season are two LCU teammates, as Celia Duarte and Haley Knesek each have 17
  • LCU has played into overtime in back-to-back games and recorded  a draw on Saturday for the first time since October 26 of the 2017 season
  • The Lady Chaps have tallied 29 goals already this season with another seven games to play. They are just three away from surpassing their 2018 total of 31

OPPONENT OFFENSE
Lubbock Christian's back line has done well limiting scoring chances by the teams they have played against, posting a goals against average of 1.15 and limiting opponents to just 10.5 shots per game. They have also done well in limiting an opposing team's best player. No opposing player has scored more than one goal in a game against the Lady Chaps, and the only player who has tallied more than two points in a game against LCU so far this year was Savannah Mills in the season-opener against UCCS.

LEAGUE LEADERS
When taking a look at the leaderboards for the Lone Star Conference, it is likely that Lady Chap soccer fans will recognize several names near the top of the different categories. Haley Knesek and Celia Duarte rank the highest of any LCU player in a statistical category, ranking tied for second in points per game, but tied for first in total points with 17 apiece. The two also rank in the top five in the conference in goals, along with Allison Scott. All three have six each. Lady Chap goalkeeper Hannah Wise is on the goals against average leaderboard in seventh with an average of 1.11 per game.

QUICK DRAW
In last Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to Angelo State, Lubbock Christian was still able to continue a trend of scoring first and scoring fast. Allison Scott scored the goal against the Belles at the 14:57 mark. It was the ninth different goal that the Lady Chaps have scored before the 15:00 mark, including multiple goals in the first 15 minutes. The earliest goal of the season in a single game was scored by Hollie Windham at the 2:28 mark of the 2-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Lady Chaps have scored first in seven of their 11 games so far this season, going 6-1 in those contests.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
LCU has a history of success when playing at the LCU Soccer Field, and that has continued into this season with a 3-1 record on their home field. The Lady Chaps will look to continue that success at home and finish the season strong, as they play five of their remaining seven games on their own field. LCU posted a 6-4 record at home last season and have been above the .500 mark on their own field every season since 2012 when Denning took over. Their best home record came in 2015 when they did not lose a game while winning seven and tying twice.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
  • Head coach Corwyn Ritch has been leading the St. Mary's women's soccer team for the last 18 seasons, posting an overall record of 158-159-28 in his career
  • The Rattlers have used a pair of goalkeeper this season, but still have the third worst save percentage in the LSC at .683
  • Serena Frank leads the Rattler offense with three goals and one assist this season
  • St. Mary's was picked to finish 10th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll receiving 172 total points in the poll
  • Alexia Maldonado has created the most offensive chances with 18 shots and seven shots on goal

THE SERIES WITH ST. MARY'S
St. Mary's won the first ever meeting against Lubbock Christian in 2010, but the Lady Chaps lead the all-time series 6-3-2. The two ties both came in 2016. The last Rattler win was on September 21, 2017, and LCU has won three straight matchups since then.

SCOUTING TAMIU
  • The Dustdevils allow 2.67 goals per game from their opponents, which is the third worst mark in the Lone Star Conference
  • TAMIU's only conference win so far this season came at St. Mary's (3-1), but they also fought to a tie (3-3) at Angelo State
  • Vivian Martinez and Maddison Schofield are tied for the team lead with four goals each, but an assist from Martinez has her leading the team in points
  • Two goalkeepers have split almost equal time for the Dustdevils, with Ashley Barrientos allowing nine goals and Elena Rivera allowing 15
  • Texas A&M International has taken the fewest corner kicks of any LSC team this season with just 23

THE SERIES WITH THE DUSTDEVILS
Lubbock Christian is a perfect 9-0 against Texas A&M-International in the series history and has shut the Dustdevils out in eight of those nine contests. TAMIU's only game to score in was on September 23, 2017 when Lady Chaps won 4-2 in Laredo.
