LCU Makes Their LSC Championship Debut Tuesday

Lady Chaps Hosting TWU For Opening Round Match inside Rip Griffin Center

Lubbock Christian University completed their regular season with a 15-12 record and Tuesday they make their debut appearance in the Lone Star Conference Championship and host a Opening Round contest inside Rip Griffin Center, serving as the No.8-seed and hosting No.9-seed Texas Woman's. LCU qualified to the 12-team field finishing fourth place in their six-team division with a 5-5 record. TWU qualified by finishing third place in their division with a 6-4 record in their division. The seedings were based on national-RPI ratings, with Texas A&M-Commerce claiming the top seed. The winner of Tuesday's match will head to Commerce, Texas for a Quarterfinal match against host and top-seeded A&M-Commerce Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

- TWU owns a 4-3 all-time series advantage. The two traded off attending each other's tournament in 2016 and 2017, with LCU winning 3-1 in Denton (Sept. 3, 2016) and TWU winning in Lubbock 3-0 on Sept. 8, 2017, which marked the two meetings prior to a 3-2 LCU win Nov. 1 in Rip Griffin Center earlier this month. The three previous meetings have been the only on-campus meetings involving the two schools. The first four meetings were neutral site meetings and played between 1979 and 1988. LCU and TWU have never met in a postseason tournament.
- TWU was preseason picked to finish seventh in the Lone Star Conference. They went 18-13 overall last season, finishing tied for fifth in the LSC with a 10-10 conference mark. They are 15-14 this season. They went 11-7 in conference play this season and 5-3 in non-divisional conference matches. They are 5-7 on the road this season. TWU is making their third consecutive LSC Championship appearance.
- The Pioneers rank fourth the conference and rank 28th nationally in blocks per set at a rate of 2.3 per set. They are 25th nationally with 250 total blocks. They posted nine against LCU in their prior meeting. Trixie Oche leads the conference and ranks 16th nationally with 1.26 blocks per set and was the third LSC player to reach 100 total blocks this season. She ranks second in the LSC with 132 blocks (13th nationally) and had four in the previous meeting against LCU.
- TWU is fourth in the LSC with 157 aces served this season, but they have 232 serving errors on the season. Maggie Pyles leads TWU with 33 aces (seventh in the LSC) and Katy Ranes has 32 aces (ninth in the LSC).
- Bailey French compliments the TWU defense, behind the blocking line, with 4.7 digs per set (third in the LSC) and has 501 digs on the season (fourth in the LSC).
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps head into the contest with a 15-12 record following a 3-0 regular season finale loss Saturday to Tarleton State, which ended LCU's five-match home win streak. They went 9-9 in conference matches and finished with a 5-5 record in divisional play.
- Tuesday's match will mark LCU's first LSC Championship contest and the second consecutive season they have hosted a postseason tournament contest. Last season, LCU played their first postseason home match since 2009, hosting the Heartland Conference Championship. LCU is 1-4 in postseason matches since joining NCAA Division II and all five matches were part of the Heartland Conference Championships. Their lone win was during the 2016 tournament. LCU appeared in 17 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournaments (NAIA) prior to making their HC Championship debut in 2015. LCU won the 2007 SAC Tournament title for their lone postseason tournament crown.
-LCU ranks third in the LSC in attacks per set (37.9), ranking 47th nationally. Their total attacks mark of 4,126 attack attempts ranks fourth in the conference (52nd nationally). Hannah Thomas has received much of the effort, totaling 979 attacks (third in the conference) and averaging 9.5 attacks per set (ranks fifth in the conference). She ranks tied for 17th in the LSC in kills (268).
- Lubbock Christian has served up 149 aces in their 26 matches this season (fifth in the LSC). Maddie DeGuire leads the team in aces with 39, which leads the conference. She is fourth in the conference with a pace of 0.36 per set. Bradi Marshall and Hannah Thomas have also been an impact from the service line, as they are each tied for 10th in the conference with 30.
- Marshall ranks second in the LSC in assists per set with a rate of 9.49, ranking 78th nationally. She is second the LSC in total assists with 1,034 (50th nationally). Marshall has 36 career double-doubles (19 this season) and has 11 in her last 13 matches played. She became the 11th player in LCU program history to reach 2,000 career assists, and currently sits with 2,109 career assists for 10th all-time in program history.
- Maddie DeGuire ranks fourth in the conference in total digs (506) and is fourth in digs per set (4.6). Her mark of 345 digs in conference play finished second in the LSC (fourth with a pace of 4.73 per set in conference).
- Morgan Schwarz displayed a mix of offense and defense in conference play, averaging 1.93 kills per set on a .288 attack percentage and 0.68 blocks per set (50.0 blocks in conference play). Her .288 attack percentage in conference play ranks 14th in the LSC and she ranks 11th in the LSC with 83 blocks overall this season.
- LCU opponents have been called for 102 ball handling errors this season (42 have been called against LCU).
-On Oct. 17, the LCU Athletic Department announced Mandy Polk has been promoted from interim head coach to head coach, officially marking her as the sixth head coach in program history. LCU has a 6-3 record since the announcement.

Tickets for Tuesday's game in Lubbock are $6 for adults and 3$ for high school students (and younger). Chap Passes will not be honored and LCU faculty members and students must purchase tickets to attend the event. All ticket purchases will take place at the normal admission gates (north end of the Rip Griffin Center) Tuesday evening and no advance purchase options are available.
