ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Lubbock Christian University begins their last road swing of the season this week, playing three final games away from Lubbock before two at home to end the season. It will be three games in three different states, as LCU takes on DBU this Thursday before facing Rogers State on Saturday (in Oklahoma) and Newman on Feb. 21 (in Kansas). The Chaps have struggled on the road this season, with just two wins in seven chances.
Â
WIN STREAK
The Chaps are currently riding their longest win streak of the 2018-19 season, having won four straight games. The streak began with a Jan. 31 victory against Newman (78-70)and has since included wins over UAFS (82-69), St. Mary's (76-70) and Texas A&M-International (75-36). It is the longest LCU win streak since the 2016-17 season, when the team won five straight games between Feb. 18 and March 3. Â
Â
SUPER SENIORS
In all but four of this season's games, the Chaps have been led in the scoring column by two players –
Brennen Fowler and
Isaac Asrat – who are also the only two seniors on the team. Both Fowler and Asrat have been the team leader in nine games each, and the two were co-leaders in one other game. In the four games that either Fowler or Asrat did not lead, the scoring leaders were
Rashaan Proctor (twice),
Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath and
Silas Crisler.
Â
DEFENDING THE DUSTDEVILS
Lubbock Christian's last game against Texas A&M-International featured its best defensive performance in a decade. The Chaps held the Dustdevils to a number of season lows, including points (36), field goals made (12) and shooting percentage (21.8 percent). LCU also forced a season-high 19 turnovers in the game, with five different players recording multiple steals, including the team leader
Isaac Asrat, who had four.
Â
DOUBLE-DOUBLE, NO TROUBLE
Forward
Brennen Fowler recorded his 10th double-double of the season last Thursday against St. Mary's (24 points, 14 rebounds), but it was also the 34th of his prestigious career. His 34 career-double-doubles rank fifth above active Division II players and is tied for the 24 most among active players across all divisions. Fowler has a chance to reach fourth place in Division II, with the next player having recorded 37 in his career.
Â
RHYMIN' AND STEALIN'
Guard
Isaac Asrat took over the team lead in steals on Saturday against Texas A&M-International, gabbing four steals in the contest. He tied the single-game Heartland Conference high on Feb. 19 against UAFS when he tallied six steals. He has 25 this season and is on pace to pass his 2017-18 season total of 36.
Â
SHARP SHOOTING
The Chaparrals have shot better than 50 percent from the field in 10 games this season, winning every one of those contests. They have the second best shooting percentage in the Heartland Conference at .478. If LCU hits less than half of its shots, however, it has a losing record of just 3-6. The Chaps' best shooting game this season was on Dec. 19 when they shot 55.4 percent in a 23-point win against UT Permian Basin.
Â
FACING THE HEARTLAND
The Chaparrals are in their sixth season of Heartland Conference play after first joining for the 2013-14 campaign. They have now played a total of 103 games in conference play, making Thursday's contest against Dallas Baptist their 105th in Heartland play. LCU is 69-36 in those six seasons giving them a .636 winning percentage overall.

THE SERIES WITH THE PATRIOTS
Lubbock Christian has been playing basketball against Dallas Baptist for a very long time, as the two teams first faced off in the 1965-66 season. They have played 38 total times in the series history, with LCU winning 19 of those times. The Patriots won the first 11 meetings until LCU finally had a victory in 1976, and the series has been back and forth since then. LCU's longest win streak was four games, and DBU has won the last two contests.
