Lady Chaps Play Twice on Second Day of Chap Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 13, 2019) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals head into the second day of the three-day Chap Classic, they are hosting inside Rip Griffin Center, with a pair of matches on Friday's docket. The Lady Chaps open with Pittsburg State (1 p.m.) before facing Black Hills State (7p.m.). The Lady Chaps take a three-game match win streak into the day's action.

PITTSBURG STATE | Friday, Sept. 13 | 1 p.m.
- The Lady Chaps and Pittsburg have only met one prior time, with the contest occurring Sept. 17, 1999 in Dallas, Texas. The tilt was at a tournament hosted by Dallas Baptist University. LCU won the match 3-0.
- PSU is picked to finish seventh in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). They went 18-13 last season and they finished ninth in the MIAA with a 7-11 conference mark. 
- The Gorillas are one of MIAA members with a perfect record (4-0) through the opening week of play. They hosted a classic in which they posted wins over East Central (Okla.), Midwestern State, Western Colorado and Southwest Baptist. Nine of 11 of the MIAA programs have a winning record through the first week of play.
- PSU produced 26 aces in their four matches over the opening weekend, which has them ranked second in the MIAA with a mark of 1.9 aces per set. They have six players with at least three aces on the season.
- Morgan Henning produced 38 kills over the first weekend and leads the nation with a .586 attack percentage.
 
BLACK HILLS STATE | Friday, Sept. 13 | 7 p.m.
- LCU and Black Hills State have never faced each other. The Lady Chaps are 0-1 all-time against South Dakota based programs, with a 3-0 loss to National American University on Oct. 13, 2000 serving as their lone prior meeting against a Mount Rushmore State program.
- BHSU is a member of the RMAC and they are slated to finish 10th this season. They went 9-16 last season, with a 6-12 mark in RMAC play. LCU is 1-2 against RMAC squads this season.
- Yellow Jackets opened their season in Joplin, Mo. at Missouri Southern's classic, where they went 2-2. They defeated SWOSU 3-1, who they are scheduled to play in the Chap Classic. BHSU opens Friday's action with a morning tilt against Texas-Permian Basin.
- Laurel Lech and Madee Hoopman each earned All-Tournament honors in Missouri.  Lech tallied 68 total assists and averaged 4.86 assists per set while recording three double-doubles. Outside hitter Hoopman tallied 42 total kills (3.0 per set).
- BHSU is 45th nationally and third in the RMAC with a pace of 17.5 digs per set. Haedyn Rhoades leads the team with an average of 5.0 per set.
 
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU's home opener Thursday resulted in LCU's third straight win in a 3-0 straight set win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, who is preseason picked to win the Great American Conference (GAC). LCU improved to 8-3 in home openers since 2008.
- LCU posted 89 digs Thursday and it marked the highest by a NCAA Division II program this season in a three-set match (the highest last season was 104 by Upper Iowa). The mark by LCU was the highest total in a three-set match by a Lone Star Conference program since Angelo State had 90 digs on Nov. 8, 2014 against LCU.
-The Lady Chaps enter the weekend leading the Lone Star Conference and rank 69th nationally in total attacks with a mark of 544 on the season (702 after Thursday). Hannah Thomas has received much of the effort, averaging 7.9 attacks per set, which is 10th in the conference (she is at 9.2 after Thursday's effort). She led LCU with 13 kills in their win over SWOSU. 
- Lubbock Christian has served up 33 aces in their five matches this season (They entered the week ranking third in the conference with 29 aces). They have 1.7 aces per set on the season.  Bradi Marshall entered the week co-leading the conference and with a share of 17th place nationally with 10 aces on the season.  She leads the team, with Maddie DeGuire second with nine.
- Marshall also ranks third in the LSC in assists per set with a rate of 9.6. She leads the LSC in total assists with 182. Thursday, Marshall posted her second consecutive double-double of the season and the double-double Thursday was the 18th of her LCU career. She had a career-high of 24 digs Thursday, topping her prior career-high mark of 18 (she had 18 twice in her career).
