LCU and UCO Series Snapshot
  • LCU and UCO have never faced each other.
  • UCO is a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Lady Chaps are 1-1 against MIAA programs this season (defeated Nebraska-Kearney, but lost to Rogers State).

Festival Notes
  • LCU has five games scheduled at the Edmond Regional Festival II.
  • Friday's games were scheduled on the campus of Oklahoma Christian and Saturday they will head to complete the rest of the weekend's games at Central Oklahoma (10-minute drive north to Edmond, Okla.).
  • The Lady Chaps cancelled out on attending the event last season due to extremely below-average temperatures.
  • LCU is 1-1 at the festival this season.

Opening Thoughts
  • LCU is off to a 10-1 start on the season. They opened the season 9-0, which marked their best start since a 23-0 start in 2012 (best start since going Division II). Their current 10-1 record is their best 11-game stretch to open the season since a 12-1 start in 2017.
  • Pitcher Taylor Franco is 5-1 to on the season (co-leads the conference) and has a 1.20 ERA (third in the LSC) over 35.0 innings pitched (tied for fifth in the LSC). She has 31 strikeouts (fifth in the conference) and four walks on the season (first walk allowed this season came in the 24th inning of her innings pitched). Opened the week leading the nation in strikeouts-to-walk ratio (25.0).
  • LCU has nine home runs on the season, tied for third in the LSC. Angela Donaldson has three on the season to lead the team (tied for fourth in the LSC).
  • Donaldson leads the team in RBI with 13, which is tied for sixth in the conference (seventh on a per game basis at 1.2). Nearly half (six) of her RBI have come with two-outs.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic (the RBI that gives a club the lead it never relinquishes), but through their 10-1 season start, five different Lady Chaps have a game-winning RBI. Skylar Herrera, Clarissa Martinez and Angela Donaldson each have two, while Savannah Wysocki and Athena Muniz each have won (two have been via errors, which players do not get credit for).
  • Athena Muniz leads LCU with a .500 average on the season (11-for-22), which is tied for sixth in the conference. Her .818 slugging is 11th in the conference.
  • Savannah Wysocki is LCU hits leader (12) and is batting .353 (12-for-34), with four doubles and three triples (co-leads the LSC in triples).
  • Clarissa Martinez and Wysocki each have four doubles, which ranks tied for fourth in the LSC.

How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 10-1 this season and two of the wins have come in extra innings and against nationally ranked programs (both were the opening wins of the season in Gulf Shores, Ala.). They were one of 17 teams nationally without a loss entering this weekend's play.
  • The Lady Chaps are hitting .286 as a team, with nine home run and 61 RBI in 11 games. LCU averages 6.5 runs a contest (fifth in the LSC).
  • LCU entered the week ranking 12th nationally in stolen bases per game (3.2) and fourth in total stolen bases (29). They head into Saturday's play with an average of 2.7 stolen bases per game. Skylar Herrera ranks tied for third in the conference with 12 stolen bases and Savannah Wysocki is tied for fifth in the LSC with 10 steals.
  • In the circle, LCU is third in the LSC in ERA (1.89), and they entered the week 15th nationally. The Lady Chaps also entered the week fifth in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.22) and rank eighth in WHIP (0.88). LCU has three shutouts this season, which is tied for sixth nationally.
  • Defensively, LCU has turned five double plays, which ranks 11th nationally. Their .970 fielding percentage is 38th nationally and third in the LSC.
  • LCU batters have been beaned nine times by pitches, which ranks tied for 12th nationally. Tyla Lee, Addi Lewis and Savanna Wysocki each co-lead the team, as they have been hit twice. Six different batters have been pegged this season.
  • While LCU is 6-for-19 (.316) with the bases loaded (Addi Lewis is 2-for-4 with the bases loaded), LCU's opponents are 2-for-9 (.222) when the bases are juiced. Opponents entered the week 0-for-6 on the season and are 2-for-3 over the weekend.

  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Saturday with a softball record of 408-123 (76.8%).
  • His 400th win was recorded Feb.1, as he became the 53rd active NCAA Division II softball head coach to reach 400 career wins and he is the only active coach to do it in less than 11 seasons.
  • Along with surpassing 300 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record.

  • The Bronchos are coming off a 48-8 season and they went 23-3 in the MIAA. They were swept by Augustana last season in the NCAA Division II Central Super Regional Tournament.
