LCU Moves in to Tie for Seventh at Chap Classic

Chaps Post Team Score of 292 in Final Round

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 10, 2020) – The Lubbock Christian men's golf team had its best single round of the Chap Classic on Tuesday, posting a team score of 292 to move up into a tie for seventh on the final day of competition.
 
LCU's 292 in the final round was their best single-round score by 11 strokes and moved them up one spot into a tie for seventh with West Texas A&M. The Chaps ended the tournament with a three-round total of 901.
 
Western Texas College captured the team championship, finishing four over at 868, even though their third-round score of 291 was the fourth-best of the day. Charlie Crockett of Hutchinson Community College was the individual winner with a three-round score of 209, which was seven under for the tournament. He finished one stroke ahead of Western Texas College's Jake Leatherwood and Rogers State's Luke Palmowski.
 
For Lubbock Christian individually, Jeff Maciejewski ended up as LCU's top finisher in a tie for 14th. Maciejewski had the best single round of any Chap golfer on Tuesday with a three-under score of 69 to finish five over at 221 for the tournament.
 
Three strokes behind was Chap freshman Braxton Floyd, who finished in 23rd. He shot a one-over score of 73 in the final round for a total score of 224.
 
Zach Burkholder and Maxwell Mitchell finished tied for 32nd individually with identical overall scores of 230 (14-over). Burkholder got there with a strong final round score of 72, while Mitchell shot a 78 on Tuesday.
 
Jake Bowen played well on the front nine but carded an 83 in the third round, ending up in 46th place with a 239 overall score.
 
Of LCU's three individuals competing in the tournament, Chase Mykleby had the best overall score at 240 overall, although he carded an 80 in the final round. John-Payton Freeman finished  in 49th with an overall score of 245 after scoring an 81 in the last round. Kade Young improved in round three with a 78 and finished with a two-day score of 253.
 
Lubbock Christian will next be in competition on March 23 and 24 when they travel to Austin, Texas to play in the St. Edward's Invitational at the Onion Creek Country Club.
