Lady Chaps Hosting SEU For LSC Home Opening Doubleheader

LCU Aims To Erase Three-Game Losing Streak After Opening Conference Play on the Road Last Week

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 6, 2020) – No.20 Lubbock Christian University opens their first weekend of Lone Star Conference home games Friday with a doubleheader against St. Edward's. First pitch at PlainsCapital Park is scheduled for 2 p.m.

LCU and SEU Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over SEU, 15-7.
  • The Lady Chaps had a 3-2 series edge last season, going 1-1 in Austin and 2-1 in Lubbock.
    • Lindzi Clemmer went 9-for-18 (.500) last season against SEU with four doubles and four RBI.
    • LCU hit .343 as a team in the series with a 4.38 ERA, while SEU hit .290 with a 6.32 ERA. The Lady Chaps had a 15-4 advantage in doubles.

  • Pitcher Taylor Franco, who claimed LSC Pitcher of the Week accolades last week, is 9-3 on the season (leads the conference in wins and tied for fourth nationally) and has a 1.49 ERA (third in the LSC) over 70.2 innings pitched (fifth in the LSC). She has 60 strikeouts (sixth in the conference, leading the conference with 25 strikeouts looking) and 11 walks on the season (first walk allowed this season came in the 24th inning of her innings pitched). Franco enters the week leading the LSC and ranks 37th nationally with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.45. She also enters the week averaging 1.09 walks per seven innings (second in LSC and 58th nationally) and a WHIP of 0.93 (second in the LSC and 35th nationally).
  • LCU ranks sixth in the LSC with 16 home runs on the season (tied for 22nd nationally). Angela Donaldson, Skylar Herrera and Addi Lewis each have three on the season to co-lead the team (tied for 15th in the LSC).
  • Donaldson leads the team in RBI with 18, which is tied for 15th in the conference. Half (nine) of her RBI have come with two-outs.
  • The statistic of "game-winning RBI" is not an official statistic (the RBI that gives a club the lead it never relinquishes), but through their 16-4 season start, seven different Lady Chaps have a game-winning RBI. Skylar Herrera and Clarissa Martinez co-lead the team with four. Angela Donaldson has two, while Addi Lewis, Brooke Makemson, Savannah Wysocki and Athena Muniz each have one (two have been via errors, which players do not get credit for).
  • Athena Muniz leads LCU with a .383 average on the season (18-for-47), which is 25th in the conference.
  • Savannah Wysocki and Skylar Herrera co-lead LCU in hits (23).(tied for 20th in the conference). Wysocki is batting .315 (23-for-72), with six doubles (tied for 13th in the LSC and leads team) and three triples (tied for second the LSC in triples and tied for seventh nationally). She also has two home runs (had one last season) for a 562 slugging mark, which leads the squad.
 
How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 16-6 this season and are 4-0 against nationally ranked teams. They made the jump this week from No.22 to No.20 in the NFCA Top-25 Poll this week, for a second consecutive appearance in the polls. The entry last week into the Top-25 marked the first time they have been ranked since making the move to NCAA Division II (2014 season).
  • The Lady Chaps are hitting .278 as a team, with 16 home run and 110 RBI in 22 games. LCU averages 5.7 runs a contest (fifth in the LSC).
