LUBBOCK, Texas (January 16, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University's men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2021 indoor season on Saturday, competing at the Corky Classic at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
On the men's side, LCU sent 14 competitors, many of whom were competing at their first collegiate meets. The highest-placing Chaparral on the day was freshman
Kevin Washington, who competed in the triple jump. Washington recorded a jump of 13.91m to take fourth place.
Two other LCU men earned top 10 finishes.
Keitron Boyd completed the 200m with a time of 21.69, which was good enough for eighth place.
Samuel Wing claimed sixth place in the 400m, finishing with a time of 50.38.
In the field events, Mitch Stutler took seventh place in the long jump with a distance of 6.38m, while Washington jumped 6.37m.
Bryce Spencer recorded a weight throw of 16.96m to take eighth in the event.
LCU also had one men's relay team compete, with Boyd, Wing,
Luke Mosley and
Haven Hernandez taking fifth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:24.93.
On the women's side, only nine competitors went.
Kristen Hughes placed 12
th in the long jump, and
Jaliyah Jackson finished the 200m with a time of 26.23 to take 18
th as LCU's top performers.
In a field of only LCU runners in the 400m,
Anna Salisbury took first with a time of 1:02.36.
Madelyn Merrell ran the 800m with a time of 2:39.04, and
Chloe Trull posted a time of 6:15.78 in the mile.
The Lady Chaps also had a relay team in the 4X400, with Jackson, Salisbury,
Vanessa Moreau and
Sydney Jones placing seventh with a time of 4:23.18.
Both teams will next be in competition on Jan. 29 at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan.
