NO. 3 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (3-0)
vs.
ARLINGTON BAPTIST (1-4)
Saturday, November 20 – 1 PM
Rip Griffin Center (Lubbock, Texas)
All-Time Series: LCU leads 2-0
TIPOFF
Lubbock Christian was able to start the 2021-22 season with four straight games on their home court, the fourth of which will come this Saturday against Arlington Baptist. After back-to-back wins against the teams ranked in the top five nationally, the Chaps will look to improve to 4-0 with a win over the Patriots before making a trip to Hawaii over Thanksgiving.
FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | The Chaparrals have limited their opponents this season to an average of just 61.7 points per game, which ranks No. 28 among all Division II teams. Opposing teams have shot just 36.4 percent from the field against LCU, including a season-low 32.4 percent performance by the Buffs on Thursday night. Behind the arc, the three teams LCU has faced have combined for just 27.7 percent shooting.
2 | Arlington Baptist competes in the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association. They are 1-4 on the young season, with the one win coming by a score of 64-60 against Texas College on Nov. 11. The Patriots have also played three exhibition games, taking on Texas Wesleyan, Oklahoma Baptist and LSU-Shreveport in non-countable contests.
3 | For the second time this season,
Aamer Muhammad set a new career high, when he scored 24 points on Thursday night against West Texas A&M. The performance surpassed his previous career mark of 23 points, which he set less than a week earlier against Regis. The third-year sophomore was 7-for-15 from the field, including three three-pointers and a near-perfect performance at the free throw line. He is leading the team through three games with an average of 20.7 points per game.
4 | The people of Lubbock may recognize the man sitting on the bench to lead the Patriots, as former Texas Tech men's basketball player Bubba Jennings is in his first year as the head coach of the program. Jennings is certainly familiar with LCU head coach
Todd Duncan and assistant coach
Jason Imes. When Duncan was being recruited to the Red Raiders, it was Jennings – then working as a graduate assistant – who hosted him on his official visit. Imes worked with Jennings for a decade when the two were apart of the coaching staff at Tech under Bob Knight.
5 | LCU hit 21 of its 23 free throw attempts on Thursday night, raising their season mark to 90 percent (45-50), which ranks No. 2 nationally. Muhammad leads the way at 94.7 percent (18-19), while
Parker Hicks (10-11) and
Lloyd Daniels (7-8) are also above the 8- percent mark for the season.
THE SERIES WITH THE PATRIOTS
Lubbock Christian and Arlington Baptist have met just twice on the hardwood previously, with LCU leading the series 2-0. The first meeting was exactly nine years ago (Nov. 20, 2012), which the Chaps won 82-48. In 2014 they met again and LCU won 87-64.
