LUBBOCK, Texas (February 9, 2021) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals volleyball team returns home to Rip Griffin Center to host No.7 Angelo State to open a two-match Lone Star Conference West Division series. Opening serve Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the series continuing Wednesday inside Rip Griffin Center.

- LCU and Angelo State are meeting for the 27th time all-time and meeting for a third time as conference foes (1-1 as LSC opponents). LCU defeated No.15 ASU 3-1 on Oct. 22, 2019, in their previous meeting (in Lubbock), which placed Angelo State with an all-time series mark of 17-9 record, as they lead the series. Despite the ASU series advantage (they had a nine-match win streak from 1980 to 1986), LCU has won seven of the past nine meetings. Of the 26 all-time prior meetings, the two squads have only played in Lubbock six times. ASU has won four of the six all-time meetings in Lubbock, with LCU's wins coming Sept. 13, 2002 and Oct. 22, 2019.
- ASU, which went 29-3 last season, going 17-1 in LSC play, had their season end at the 2019 NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship Game. This season, the Belles are 4-0 on the season (conference and division play). They are preseason picked atop the LSC this season.
- ASU's Kailyn Gilbreath was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Lindsey Ledyard received Preseason Setter of the Year honors. Gilbreath averages 3.47 kills per set (fifth in the conference) and Ledyard is fourth in the conference with 8.1 assists per set.
- Angelo State is averaging 42.9 attacks per set, which ranks fourth in the nation and leads the LSC.
- Chloe Patton ranks fourth in the LSC in digs per set with a mark of 4.87.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters the game with a 3-2 record overall and a 2-2 Lone Star Conference record. LCU split two-match series with West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin.
- The Lady Chaps rank in the top-10 in several national team categories. They enter the week ranking third in team total attacks (768) and team total digs (350), fourth in assists (212) and fifth in kills (232).

Jalee Sims, who has four double-doubles out of LCU's five matches, leads the LSC in total assists (169), which is second nationally. Entering Tuesday, she averages 8.89 per set, which is third in the conference (24
th nationally). Last Tuesday, she posted 35 assists and 30 digs. Going through game-by-game records on file since 2004 (detailed game-by-game statistics are incomplete in archives prior), Sims is the only Lady Chaps member to have at least 30 digs and 30 assists in the same match. Only two players in Division II completed the task last season.
- Sims also ranks fourth in the LSC in digs with 80, behind conference leader and teammate
Maddie DeGuire, who has 106 digs and entered the week ranking second nationally in the category. DeGuire averages 5.58 digs per set to rank third in the conference (ranks 18
th nationally).
- LCU is preseason picked ninth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll. This season marks LCU's second season as members of the Lone Star Conference. LCU was preseason picked sixth last season and finished tied for third in their division last season (5-5 in division play), taking the No.8 seed into the conference tournament. Prior to last season, LCU had been in the Heartland Conference since 2013.

Avery Moore (55, eighth nationally) is third in kills in the LSC, with teammate
Sage Post (44, 28
th nationally) ranking ninth in the conference. Moore ranks 12
th in the conference in kills per set with an average of 2.89 per set.
- LCU is 2-5 since 2015 against nationally ranked programs, going 1-1 against ranked foes last season. The win last season was their 3-1 win over No.15 Angelo State (Oct. 22, 2020).
- LCU has a 4-1 record in the opening set of matches on the season, but they are 0-5 in the second set.
