TIPOFF
Lubbock Christian plays it second-to-last road game of the 2021-22 season on Saturday, taking on Cameron as part of a three-game road swing. The Chaps have not lost a game on the road this season, including an away win in a tough environment on Thursday, when they took down West Texas A&M 85-76. The Chaps have a two game lead in the Lone Star Conference standings at 10-1 and with three league games (four total) currently left on the schedule, ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce and Dallas Baptist, who are both 8-3.
Â
FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | Parker Hicks has had one heck of a February so far. The senior forward is now averaging 32.2 points per game in the four February games the Chaps have played. That average is buoyed by his record-setting 50-point performance on Tuesday against Texas A&M International, but his other single-game totals for the month are 25, 25 and 29. He is shooting the ball 60.3 percent in the last four contests, including a near miraculous 58.6 percent from behind the arc. He is LCU's leading rebounder in that time (9.0 per game), while chipping in 11 assists, six blocks and a pair of steals.
Â
2 | Cameron got its first Lone Star Conference win on Thursday night and its first win overall since December 2 against Western New Mexico. The Aggies snuck by Eastern New Mexico thanks to a team-high 19 points, 18 of which came from behind the arc. Colt Savage had the clutch buckets to win it, though, nailing a pair of free throws with just 1.2 seconds left to put CU on top. Their third and final win of the season was in the very first game, when they beat CSU-Pueblo 74-66.
Â
3 | The Chaps shot a season-high 62.5 percent from the field on Thursday night at WT, raising their season field goal percentage to 52.2 percent, which is the fourth-highest mark in all of Division II. Hicks leads the LSC with a 55.4 percentage and Daniels is right behind him at 54.6 percent.
Aamer Muhammad also ranks inside the top five at 49.3 percent shooting.
Â
4 | After back-to-back games of allowing opponents to shoot better than 40 percent, LCU's defense returned to its stingy ways on Thursday against the Buffs, holding them to just 36.6 percent shooting. Lubbock Christian opponents this season are shooting 38.6 percent overall, which gives them the third-best defense in the nation.
Â
5 | Lubbock Christian out-rebounded an opponent for the first time in five games on Thursday. The Chaps average 34.3 rebounds per game, which is only the ninth-best mark in the LSC.
Â
THE SERIES WITH THE AGGIES
Lubbock Christian and Cameron have met sparingly over the years, but the series does date back to 1973. The Aggies were winners in the first nine meetings, from 1973 to 1994 before LCU finally got a win in 1995, and they won again a month later. Since the Chaps joined the NCAA, Lubbock Christian has won four out of the five meetings between the teams, including the last two.
