LUBBOCK, Texas (February 27, 2022) – Lubbock Christian University plays their final games Sunday, before jumping into Lone Star Conference play, as they have a non-conference doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.

LCU and ENMU Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over ENMU, 35-0.
  • The Lady Chaps went 2-0 against ENMU last season, with both games played in Portales, N.M. on Mar. 15, 2021. LCU won 14-3 and 14-0 and both games ended in five innings.
  • Last season, Alivia Villarreal was 3-for-5 (.600) against ENMU, with Athena Muniz (4-for-7, .571) and Skylar Herrera (4-for-8, .500) co-leading LCU in the series with four hits.
  • Taylor Franco is 3-0 with an 0.86 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 16.1 innings over her career against ENMU.

She is 41-19 in her career, which has her 16th in active career NCAA Division II leaders in wins. The 41 wins sits third all-time in LCU program history in career wins.
  • Valdez and Franco each have six wins, which ties for eighth nationally and tied for third in the LSC.
  • Franco has no hitters in two of her last five appearances and went 25.2 consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run. She co-leads LCU in career no-hitters with three.
  • Savannah Wysocki had a triple Saturday, placing her with four on the season and 19 in her LCU career, which actively leads NCAA Division II in career triples. The four triples on the season ranks second in NCAA Division II. Wysocki, with nine stolen bases this season, has 67 in her career, ranking 10th among active career NCAA Division II leaders (third all-time in program history). Her nine stolen bases this season ranks 24th nationally.
  • Tyla Lee leads LCU, hitting .558 with 24 hits and 18 RBI. Her 24 hits rank tied for ninth in the LSC.
  • Lee claimed NFCA National Player of the Week and LSC Hitter of the Week honors for her efforts last week. LCU went 5-0 at the Regional Festival and Lee had four multi-hit games, including going 3-for-3 with two home runs (matched career high) and 5 RBI (career high) in LCU's 13-5 win over No.14 Rogers State, which was LCU's first run-rule win over a ranked opponent since Mar. 13, 2013. The graduate from Red Deer, Alberta also went 3-for-4 against Southern Arkansas and 1-for-2 against Arkansas Tech, which were regional qualifying programs last season. She played three games at third base and two catching, and her breakdown on the week included 7-for-10 with the bases empty, 4-for-6 with runners on base and 2-for-2 in bases-loaded at-bats. She is riding a 13-game hit streak. A Lady Chaps member receives the national honor for a second consecutive season. Last season, Brooke Makemson became LCU's first recipient of the national player of the week honor at the NCAA Division II level (Feb. 10, 2021). Lee marks the third Lady Chaps member to receive a weekly honor from the NFCA, as the first to be recognized by the NFCA was Monique Francois, who received Pitcher of the Week honors during the 2018 season. Lee's LSC honor marks a second consecutive week an LCU member has been recognized with a conference weekly honor this season (first hitter of the week honor). Taylor Franco claimed Pitcher of the Week accolades last week.
  • Kasey Flores ranks tied for second for LCU (behind Skylar Herrera, 5, and even with Tyla Lee) in home runs with four (tied for seventh in LSC). Flores, a transfer from UTEP, sits 21st actively among NCAA Division II leaders in home runs with 27.
  • Skylar Herrera has six stolen bases on the season, placing her with 47 in her career, ranking 44th actively among NCAA Division II career leaders. She leads LCU with five home runs (13th nationally) and is second on the squad in RBI (13), with a team-leading nine with two-outs.
  • LCU is fourth nationally in triples (10), with Savannah Wysocki ranking second in the nation with four triples and Brooke Makemson is right behind with three triples (ranks sixth nationally).
  • Tyla Lee leads LCU in multi-hit games (8). Brooke Makemson leads LCU with five multi-RBI games.
 
Season Expectations
  • The Lady Chaps are preseason picked to finish seventh in the Lone Star Conference.
  • LCU is in their eighth season playing a NCAA Division II schedule (2013 was their last season in NAIA) and this is their third season as members of the Lone Star Conference.
  • There are 16 softball programs in the LSC this season. The major difference from last season to this season is UT Tyler is postseason eligible.

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 12th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering the season with a softball record of 459-147.
  • Along with surpassing 450 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 350 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record.
 
Neutralizing
  • LCU is 5-2 this season in neutral site contests.
  • The Lady Chaps are hitting .317 (four home runs) in neutral site tilts, and contributing a 2.33 ERA in the circle (opponents hitting .217).  
  • Tyla Lee (12-for-23) is leading LCU with a .522 average in neutral site games.

Looking at ENMU
  • The Greyhounds went 4-27 last season, finishing 15th in the LSC with a 4-26 conference mark. They are off to a 7-7 start on the season and enter Sunday's game on a four-game losing streak.
  • ENMU is hitting .267 this season and have four home runs on the season. They have a staff ERA of 5.31 and opponents are hitting .206 against them.
  • This is the Greyhounds second trip to Lubbock this season. They attended the Visit Lubbock Collegiate Classic and went 4-1.
  • ENMU is preseason picked 15TH in the LSC Preseason Poll.
  • The 'hounds are coached by Amanda Fefel, who is in her first season after serving as an assistant for two seasons at Appalachian State.
