LUBBOCK, Texas (March 25, 2022) – No.10 Lubbock Christian University returns home where a foursome of games against ranked competition awaits. The four-game homestand of Lone Star Conference plays gets underway Friday, with the Lady Chaparrals hosting No.21 Texas A&M-Commerce for a conference doubleheader.

LCU and TAMUC Series Snapshot
  • TAMUC leads the all-time series 2-1
  • The scheduled doubleheader will mark the first games between the two teams in Lubbock. The two teams split a doubleheader (4-3 TAMUC, 9-6 LCU) last season (Mar. 26) in Commerce, Texas, and the first meeting played was Feb. 4, 2016 at the Division II College Classic in San Antonio, Texas and TAMUC won 11-5
  • The two teams were set to play at the North Texas Softball Bash in Mesquite, Texas on Feb. 11, 2018, but a cold front led to the game's cancellation.
  • Savannah Wysocki (4-for-8), Skylar Herrera (4-for-8) and Tyla Lee (3-for-6) are each hitting .500 in their career against TAMUC. Herrera leads LCU with four RBI and Lee leads LCU with two home runs in the series against TAMUC.
  • Maxine Valdez (1-0) has the only win in the circle for LCU against TAMUC.
 
How is the Team Doing?
  • LCU is 25-3 this season and 11-1 in LSC play. They had an 18-game win streak earlier on the season, which was their longest win streak since a 19-game win streak since 2014.
  • The Lady Chaps are hitting .356 as a team (10th nationally), with 37 home runs (sixth nationally and 11th in home runs per game, 1.3) and 51 doubles (total ranks 19th nationally and their rate of 1.82 per game ranks 21st nationally) in 28 games. She ranks seventh in the LSC in strikeouts with 77 (8.6 per seven innings ranks sixth in the LSC).
  • Taylor Franco is 13-1 with a 1.94 ERA on the season. She ranks 24th in active career ERA in NCAA with a career mark of 2.00. She is 48-20 in her career, which has her 17th in active career NCAA Division II leaders in wins. The 48 wins sits third all-time in LCU program history in career wins. Franco's 13 wins this season leads the LSC and ranks third nationally. She has six career saves, which places her fourth all-time in program history (13th among active Division II pitchers).  She has 85 career appearances, which moved her into second all-time in program history (104 is the program record). Franco also moved into second all-time in program history in strikeouts with 346 (program record is 613).
  • Franco, who went 25.2 consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run earlier this season, has three no-hitters on the season and leads LCU in career no-hitters with four. Her no-hitter Sunday at Odessa, against UTPB, also placed Franco as LCU's career leader in shutouts with 20.
  • Savannah Wysocki has six triples on the season and 21 in her LCU career, which actively leads NCAA Division II in career triples. The six triples on the season is second in all of Division II. Wysocki, with 24 stolen bases this season, has 82 in her career, ranking 10th among active career NCAA Division II leaders (all-time leader in program history). Her 24 stolen bases this season ranks 10th nationally (third in the LSC).
  • Angela Donaldson enters the series leading LCU in hitting, with an average of .479, which ranks third in the conference and 28th nationally. Her .513 on-base percentage ranks 11th in the LSC.
  • Tyla Lee is hitting .455 (10th in the LSC) with 40 hits and 34 RBI (17 with two outs). Her 40 hits ranks fifth in the LSC. Lee claimed NFCA National Player of the Week on Feb. 22, marking a second consecutive season a Lady Chaps member received national honors. Last season, Brooke Makemson became LCU's first recipient of the national player of the week honor at the NCAA Division II level (Feb. 10, 2021). Lee has received two LSC Hitter of the Week honors this season. She claimed the fourth weekly honor by a Lady Chaps member this season on Mar. 8. Franco (Pitcher, Feb. 15), Kasey Flores (Hitter, Mar.1) and Lee (Hitter, Feb. 22) previously claimed weekly accolades this season.
  • Kasey Flores leads LCU in home runs with eight (tied for fourth in the LSC). Flores sits 20th actively among NCAA Division II leaders in home runs with 31 (the mark includes her UTEP totals).
  • Skylar Herrera, second for LCU with seven homers, has 10 stolen bases on the season, placing her with 48 in her career.
  • LCU is eighth nationally in triples (15), with Savannah Wysocki second in the nation with six triples and Brooke Makemson behind her with four triples (ranks tied for 15th nationally).
  • Tyla Lee leads LCU in multi-hit games (14). Brooke Makemson leads LCU with 10 multi-RBI games.
 
Season Expectations
  • The Lady Chaps are preseason picked to finish seventh in the Lone Star Conference.
  • LCU is in their eighth season playing a NCAA Division II schedule (2013 was their last season in NAIA) and this is their third season as members of the Lone Star Conference.
  • There are 16 softball programs in the LSC this season. The major difference from last season to this season is UT Tyler is postseason eligible.

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 12th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering the weekend with a softball record of 472-148.
  • Along with surpassing 450 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 350 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record.

LCU most recently split a doubleheader (Mar. 12) against No.6 West Texas A&M.
  • On Mar.1, LCU made their debut in the NFCA national Top-25 rankings, debuting at No.15. They moved up to No.10 this week for their best ranking since joining NCAA Division II (2016 season).
 
Streaking Along
  • Kamryn Gibbs leads LCU actively on an four-game hit streak. Tiarra Delrosario has the longest hit streak this season at 19 games.
  • Delrosario actively leads LCU with a 22-game streak of reaching base safely, which is the longest streak by a Lady Chap this season.

She recorded 32 strikeouts on the week, including setting the new school record with 17 on Friday at MSU). LeBlanc has won nine starts in a row and is 9-2 on the season.
