LUBBOCK, Texas (June 23, 2022) – Lubbock Christian University director of athletics
Scott Larson has chosen
Whitney Sales as the new head cheerleading coach, which oversees the competitive cheer program at LCU.
"Whitney is a high energy coach with a strong Christian faith that lives through her coaching," said Larson. "I am excited to watch her lead and grow LCU Cheer."
Sales joins the LCU Athletic Department after serving the prior two seasons at Wayland Baptist as the head cheer coach. At Wayland Baptist, Sales directed a program that claimed numerous UCA College Camp cheer honors and leadership awards, and won a pair of national titles (Collegiate Gameday National Champions at the Texas Grand Nationals and Collegiate Gameday Sideline National Champions at Cheer America in Round Rock, Texas). Sales, a resident of Idalou, Texas, previously served as spirit director and head cheer coach at Southcrest Christian School from 2015-2019, where she also served as a golf coach. She helped lead Southcrest to a pair of All-State titles in cheer. Sales has also choreographed Paducah High School to five consecutive UIL state titles (2015-2019) and Munday High School to a 2021 UIL state title.
"I have been overwhelmed by the outpour of love and support by the athletic department and current members of LCU Cheer," Sales stated. "I am honored to take over a program with a solid foundation and grateful to those who have been here before me. God has orchestrated this entire transition and I look forward to seeing the direction he leads us. I am excited to get started and ready to build!"
Sales takes over a LCU competitive cheer program that has claimed a pair of CCA (Christian Cheerleaders of America) Grand Collegiate Champion national titles (2020 and 2021). LCU, which added competitive cheer in 2018, has finished fourth in each of the past two seasons at the NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla.
