LUBBOCK, Texas (July 22, 2024) – The Lubbock Christian University competitive cheer squad participated in the NCA SMU Collegiate Cheer Camp in Dallas and history was made, as
Rachel La Cour etched her name as the first NCA All-America selection in the program's history.
"Once our stunt group caught Rachel for her final skill, it felt as if the entire camp understood the magnitude of what had just happened for our program," said LCU competitive cheer head coach
Whitney Sales. "It was incredible to watch large Division I cheer teams run across the stadium to scoop her up and celebrate with us. The cheer community is like nothing else."
La Cour is a native of Liberty, Texas, who completed her freshman season in the Spring. The honor is given to those who display superior technical skills, leadership, and strong personal values. Each All-America nominee tries out individually with a standing toe-touch back-tuck and a running round-off back-handspring full twisting back-tuck. Once those tumbling skills are landed successfully, the nominee moves onto the stunting portion. The stunt group for La Cour was made up of her teammates;
Reagan Hale,
Blair Bowen, and
Dylan Gossett (Rachel tried out as the flyer). Various levels of universities (from NAIA to NCAA Division I) attended the camp, including Texas Tech joining LCU in the field of 25 programs.
There were additional accolades claimed by the team, and a future release will summarize those accomplishments. Additional information in regards to LCU cheer recruitment can be found at
