LUBBOCK, Texas (April 15, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University's cheer program made a strong statement on the national stage this past weekend, securing multiple top finishes and earning a prestigious specialty award at a pair of championship events in Florida.
Under the direction of head coach
Whitney Sales, the Lady Chaps first competed at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals in Daytona Beach, held at the Ocean Center and Oceanfront Bandshell. Competing in the Division II Spirit Rally event, LCU cheer delivered its strongest performance to date at the NCA level, finishing third in the nation—marking the program's best-ever finish at the NCA Nationals.
Following their success in Daytona Beach, the squad traveled to Orlando to compete at The College Classic National Championships, hosted at the Orange County Convention Center. There, LCU entered multiple events and split into two separate stunt groups for the All-Girl Group Stunt competition.
Both stunt groups placed in the top four nationally, led by the quartet of
Angelina Chiappone,
Halley Miller,
Zoey Kiser, and
Cooper Wallace, who scored 80.7 points to take third place. The team of
Rachel La Cour,
Blair Bowen,
Reagan Hale, and
Dylan Gossett followed closely behind in fourth place with a score of 78.54.
In the Co-Ed Cheer Game Day division, LCU added another major accolade to their postseason resume, placing second overall behind only Baylor University.
Capping off their stellar showing in Orlando, LCU cheer was honored with the "WOW Moment Award", a specialty team award given to the program delivering the most engaging and impactful performance of the competition. While the award lacks formal criteria, it is widely recognized as a tribute to teams who captivate the judges and audience with energy, creativity, and crowd involvement. This marked the first time LCU cheer has ever received the WOW Moment Award.
