Floyd shoots even par on opening day of Farmers Insurance/Sam Proal Invitational

Floyd records back-to-back rounds at even par or better for first time since same tournament one year ago

PUEBLO, Colo. - It was deja vu for Braxton Floyd at the Farmers Insurance/Sam Proal Invitational, as he recorded back-to-back even par rounds and sits in 14th after day one play on Monday, Sept. 19.

Floyd recorded two even-par 72s for a total two round score of 144. In the first round, he had four birdies offset by four bogeys sprinkled through his first 18 holes to card the first 72. In the second round, Floyd finished the front nine at one over after a double bogey on the seventh hole. An eagle on the 13th hole, along with a birdie on the 18th helped Floyd finish at even par for the day.

It is the first time Floyd has carded two back-to-back rounds of even par or better since the 2021 edition of the same tournament, shooting a 72 and a 70 in the first two rounds last year at the Walking Stick Golf Course. He finished 24th with a two round, two-under 142 at that tournament.

Part of Floyd's success was due to shooting even par on par fours and just three over on par threes. He carded seven birdies and was the only Chap to record an eagle.

As a team, Lubbock Christian sits at tenth place overall with a 17-over 593. The Chaps were at seventh place after shooting a seven-over 295 in the opening round, before falling three spots with a 10-over 298 in the second. The Chaps however are just two strokes out of sixth place.

LCU recorded a total of 95 pars and 31 birdies in the first two rounds, good for fourth most in the field.

Tiaan de Jager sits tied for 23rd after the first two rounds in Pueblo. De Jager shot back-to-back one-over 73s to finish with a two-over 146 score. He shot two under on par fives and also recorded seven birdies in the first two rounds.

In his second tournament as a Chap, Hayden Bowman shot a five-over 77 in the opening round before recovering nicely with a two-over 74 in the second. His seven-over 151 has him sitting in a tie for 39th overall.

Jake Bowen shot an impressive first round one-over 73, but a pair of triple bogeys in the second round gave him an eight-over 80 to finish the day in 48th with a nine-over 153. Despite this, Bowen's nine total birdies rank ninth in the entire field after the first two rounds.

Garrett Auger rounds out the field tied at 59th with a 16-over 160. Auger shot an 81 in the first round before shooting a 79 in the second.

No. 14 CSU Pueblo sits in first by 23 strokes after shooting a 31-under 545 on their home course. Matt Millar of the Thunderwolves sits in first place individually at 10-under.

Play resumes tomorrow morning for the final round at 9:30 AM. Fans can follow along with live stat links available at lcuchaps.com.
