PUEBLO, Colo. - Braxton Floyd moved up three spots on the leader board, missing out on a top-10 finish at the Farmers Insurance/Sam Proal Invitational by one stroke after the final round concluded from the Walking Stick Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Floyd shot a two-under 70 in the third round, thanks to three total birdies through his final 18 holes to just one bogey. Floyd had success on the par five fifth hole this week, birding the 511 yard hole all three times he approached it during the tournament. Floyd's three round score of 214 is a new career-best three round score for the Pampa, Texas native, beating out his previous best of 215 set at the 2022 Palm Valley Classic.
Part of his success this week came on par fours, where Floyd finished one-under with an average score of 3.97. His 35 pars are tied for seventh most in the field across three rounds.
As a team, the Chaps finished 10th with a 23-over 887 for the week. LCU shot their best round of the week in the final round, carding a six-over 294. The Chaps beat out South Central Region foe Regis by a whopping 40 strokes. The squad's 44 total birdies this week were tied for the sixth most of any team in the field.
Tiaan de Jager dropped seven spots to a tie for 30th after shooting a four-over 76 in the third round. De Jager finished the tournament with a six-over 222 for the tournament. He also recorded 33 pars through out the tournament.
Hayden Bowman rose one spot to finish tied for 38th after shooting a one-over 73 in the final round, his best of the week. Bowman carded four birdies in his final round, including back-to-back one-under shots on the 13th and 14th holes. He carded 30 pars and nine total birdies at the Walking Stick Golf Course.
After a disappointing second round,
Jake Bowen finished strong in the final round with a three-over 75. Bowen finished tied for 51st with a 12-over 228, tying his career best as a Chap from the 2020 RJGA South Central Preview. He led the team with 11 birdies in the entire tournament.
Garrett Auger shot his best round of the week with a four-over 76 on the final day of the tournament. Auger finished 58th with a 20-over 236 in his first team tournament as a Chap.
No. 14 CSU Pueblo shot 42-under for the entire tournament on their home course, winning the team championship by 33 strokes. Matt Millar of the Thunderwolves won the individual championship after shooting a 12-under 204 for the week.
The Chaps will take some time off before returning to the course just up the road in Amarillo at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational on Oct. 3.
