LCU has strong showing in lightning shortened individual tournament in Dallas

DALLAS, Texas – After lightning in the area ended the DBU Individual early, Hayden Bowman finished inside the top-15 of the field in his first tournament action as a Chap.

Because of a pair of lightning delays, the field was unable to complete the second round. Therefore, only the first round scores count toward the final standings. Every golfer for Lubbock Christian was able to finish the second round. No team scores were compiled for the event.

The first round of the tournament concluded with a solid showing from Hayden Bowman, who sat tied for 12th with a one-over 71 after the first 18 holes. Bowman impressed in his first round as a Chap, recovering from a four-over score on the front nine to card four birdies on the tenth, 14th, 16th, and 17th holes down the stretch. Bowman's five total birdies were the most of any player in the opening round.

In the second round, Bowman started two-over on the front nine, but a pair of birdies on the back nine, including his second of the day on the 14th hole, gave the freshman a two-over 72 for the second round. Bowman finished the tournament tied for 17th with Garrett Honeycutt of UT Tyler with a two-over 143 for the day.

His eight total birdies are tied for the most in the field during the entire tournament. Bowman's two-under average score of 4.50 on par fives is tied for the second-best score on the longest holes at the Golf Club of Dallas.

For Jake Bowen, he was four-over heading into the final three holes, but back-to-back birdies helped the Carlsbad native finish strong. The two-over 73 in the first round ties his second lowest score from the 2021-22 season, when Bowen shot a 73 in the opening round of the RJGA South Central Shootout.

In the second round, Bowen shot a nine-over 79, finishing the day tied for 23rd with a 12-over 152. Bowen's 21 pars are tied for tenth most in the field.

Teammate Tiaan de Jager also tied with Bowen with a 12-over 152 himself. After the first round, de Jager shot a four-over 74 before shooting an eight-over 78 in the final round. His 20 pars are tied for 15th most in the field. He also shot a two-under 4.50 average on par fives. He finished tied for 27th in the field.

After shooting a 10-over 80 in the first round, Robby Massey recovered nicely in the second round, shooting a two-over 74 to finish tied for 44th with a 14-over 154. Massey carded two birdies in the second round to move two spots up the leader board between rounds. His one under 2.88 average on par threes is tied for tenth best on the shortest holes on the Golf Club of Dallas.

Clement Catteau finished 46th after shooting an eleven-over 81 in the first round. He improved by three strokes in the second round with an eight-over 78. Catteau finished with a two round score of a 19-over 159. Catteau did shoot one-under and an average score of 2.88 on par threes.

Jackson Comer also improved between rounds, going from a 12-over 82 in the opening round to a five-over 75 in the final round. That mark is three strokes lower than the lowest score Comer shot last season, three 78's across the entire 2021-22 season.

Eli Schmucker rounds out the field for the Chaps, finishing tied with Comer for 47th with a 12-over 82 in the first round. Schmucker shot a 13-over 83 in the second round to finish with a 25-over 165 for the entire tournament.
