Floyd, de Jager inside top-10 after round one of Jack Brown Memorial

Chaps are fourth as a team

LAREDO, Texas - The Chaps sit in fourth as a team, while Braxton Floyd and Tiaan de Jager are inside the top-10 individually following the first round of the Jack Brown Memorial Invite on Monday, Feb. 6.

Floyd is tied for eighth after shooting a two-over 74 in the opening round at the Laredo Country Club. After shooting two-over on the front-nine, Floyd birdied three of the final six holes to finish the back-nine at even-par. His five birdies are tied for the second-most in the field. Floyd excelled on par fives, shooting a one-under 4.75 on the longest holes on the course, tied for the second-best score in the field.

A model of efficiency in the opening round, de Jager sits tied for 10th with a three-over 75 in the first round in Laredo. Picking up just one birdie, de Jager was solid the rest of the way with 13 pars, tied for the third-most in the field. The South African, along with Floyd, shot one-over on par fours with an average score of 4.10. On par fives, the sophomore shot even-par.

As a team, the Chaps sit in fourth with a 20-over score of 308, ten strokes ahead of region foe Fort Lewis and thirteen strokes in front of conference rival Texas A&M International. Lubbock Christian excelled as a unit on par fives, shooting four-over for an average score of 5.20, fourth-best of any team in the field. LCU's 10 total birdies are the third-most in the field.

Hayden Bowman sits just on the edge of the top-10, as the freshman is tied for 12th with a four-over 76 in the first round. After a double bogey on the sixth hole, Bowman recovered to par eight of the next nine holes, the other score being a birdie on the eighth hole. Bowman was solid on par threes, shooting one-over, 3.25 average score. 

Garrett Auger sits tied for 29th, rounding out the scoring for the Chaps with an 11-over 83 in the first round. Jackson Comer is tied for 38th with a 16-over 88 after day one. He did record a birdie on the 16th hole.

UT Tyler sits in first place by four strokes after shooting a seven-over 295 in the first round. Sebastian Tannum Donaldson of St. Mary's is in first place individually after shooting a two-under 70 in the opening round of play. 

The Chaps will close out play with the final round of the Jack Brown Memorial Invite set to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 8:00 AM. Live scoring is available for free via Golfstat at lcuchaps.com.
