Chaps Close Season at LSC Championships

THACKERVILLE, Okla. (April 19, 2023) – The Lubbock Christian University men's golf program concluded their 2022-23 season with a 12th place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships.
 
Hayden Bowman was the lone LCU golfer to shoot below his season average (75.5), as he averaged a round total of 74.67. He finished in a share of 35th place to lead LCU. He shot 8-over-par with a 76-71-77 (224), with his second-round total marking his second par-or-better round this season. Bowman produced 34 parson on the par-72 7,157-yard layout of the Scissortail Course at WinStar Golf Club, which ranked tied for 11th in the event.
 
Braxton Floyd was two strokes back of Bowman and finished with a +10 (226, 77-74-75) for a 40th-place finish. Floyd was tied for 17th in par-4 scoring (+3) and tied for 18th in pars (33). Tiaan de Jager was the only other Chaparrals member to figure in too the top-20 statistics, as he finished tied for 11th in birdies with 11. He was third on the squad and finished a share of 55th with a +18 (234, 82-76-74). His improvement from a 76 to 74 in the final round marked LCU's only improvement individually in the final round.
 
Garret Auger (tied-58th, 239) and Jackson Comer (60th, 240) also competed for the Chaps, who had their roughest LSC Championship performance. This season is LCU's fourth in the LSC and this season marked LCU's third to participate in the championships (COVID canceled the 2020 version). LCU did have the tournament's best team improvement from the first to second round, as they followed a 312 with a 302. They completed play Tuesday with a 306 to finish with a 920 and 29 strokes behind 11th-place Arkansas Fort Smith.
 
Midwestern State rallied to win the event with a 283 in the final round to finish with an 852 to edge Oklahoma Christian's total of 853. OC did have the individual champion, as Exequiel Rodriguez finished with a 208 three-round total (65-70-73).
