Victory Secures No. 6 Seed, Loss Could Trigger Four-Way Tie in LSC Standings

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 16, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University faces a critical challenge as its postseason hopes hang in the balance entering the final day of the regular season. A win in their Senior Day home finale against Dallas Baptist on Saturday at 2 p.m. would secure the No. 6 seed in the Lone Star Conference Championships. However, a loss could create uncertainty, potentially resulting in a four-way tie for sixth place in the standings.

LOOKING AT DBU
- The Lady Chaps hold a staggering 38-6 all-time record against the Patriots. LCU opened the all-time series winning the first 23 meetings dating back to 1983. DBU ended a sequence of six consecutive LCU wins in 2022 (Sept. 23, 2022) and has won the prior two meetings (both 3-1 results, with DBU defeating LCU in the prior meeting Sept. 29, 2023 in Lubbock). Last season's visit to Lubbock by the Patriots was their first since Nov. 16, 2019 and they collected their first ever win in Lubbock (1-17 all-time in Lubbock against LCU).
 
- The Patriots are coming off a NCAA South Central Regional appearance last season, where they defeated Colorado Mesa to claim their first-ever NCAA postseason win. DBU, going 24-8 overall on the season, went 14-2 in LSC play and were the regular season co-LSC champions (they hosted the LSC Championships). They were projected second this season in the LSC Preseason Poll.

- DBU has posted an impressive 17-8 overall record and is 11-4 in conference play for the 2024 season. They hold a strong home record of 9-5, are 5-3 on the road, and are undefeated (3-0) in neutral-site matches. Notable wins include victories over nationally ranked opponents Central Missouri and Wayne State. DBU currently sits in fifth in the Lone Star Conference standings, as they aim to maintain momentum heading into the conference tournament. They fell Friday at No.11 Angelo State despite a 17-kill performance from Delaney Fuller.

- Looking into national and conference statistical rankings, DBU's aces per set (1.78) mark ranks second in the conference, just behind St. Edward's (1.81), and places them 94th nationally. Offensively, their hitting percentage of .255 is second in the conference and 22nd nationwide. Defensively, they average 2.18 blocks per set, ranking fourth in the conference and 42nd in the nation.

- Delaney Fuller stands out as DBU's big producer this season, leading the Lone Star Conference in kills per set with 4.61, ranking her seventh nationally. She also tops the conference in total kills at 429, positioning her among the national top 10. Fuller's 5.17 points per set also lead the conference and place her seventh nationally, underscoring her impact in generating scoring opportunities. Additionally, her attacks per set (12.0) rank her first in the conference and sixth nationally.

LADY CHAP NOTES
- Lubbock Christian enters Saturday's match with a 13-12 overall record and a 9-6 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranks sixth among LSC teams. They played their first 14 matches of the season away from home (includes seven neutral site matches…4-3), but have taken advantage of the limited home play, posting a 5-2 record on the home floor. Their seven home matches is the fewest among all LSC programs (Cameron and Sul Ross, with eight home matches, is the closest), with several programs playing 14 games at home this season. LCU's final four regular season matches are at home (Saturday's match is the final match in regular season play).

- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Saturday averaging 37.6 attacks (per set), which ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference and 58th nationally. Kiana Fallaha and Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 10.9 attacks per set (31st nationally) and has 798 total attacks (16th in the conference) despite missing six matches. Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 3,645, which is fifth in the conference.

- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach Keith Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 445-216. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.

- Setter Kayton Genenbacher currently sits seventh all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 3,142 (25th actively among NCAA Division II assist leaders). On Nov.2 in Austin, Texas, she became the seventh Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 3,000 assists, and it came on the match-point of a 3-2 win over St. Edward's. Genenbacher ranks 12th nationally in assists per set with an average of 11.0 which is second in the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 1,064 assists this season (leads the LSC and is 19th nationally).
 
-The Lady Chaps have shown potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and at the national level. Notably, the team's digs per set average of 15.9 ranks seventh in the conference, highlighting a solid defensive effort, led by Leddy Rae Guinn (11th in LSC with 3.9 digs per set). On the offensive side, the team's kills per set average of 13.7 is fifth in the conference, with Lily Bickley (seventh in LSC in points per set, 4.0) and Kiana Fallaha (13th in points per set, 3.64) leading the way in scoring (points). Payton Murray has also been on display with double-figure kill efforts in 12 of the prior 16 matches and is averaging 2.9 kills per set over the 16-match span.
 
- LCU has made notable strides in conference play. Kayton Genenbacher has been a standout, averaging 11.7 assists per set (second in the LSC), contributing a total of 665 assists in 15 matches (leads LSC). Lily Bickley supports the offense with 195 kills (eighth in LSC), with Payton Murray (177, tied for 13th in LSC) and Bryleigh Schweer (144, 24th in LSC) providing a balance attack (14.2 kills per set for LCU to ranking fifth in the LSC, and ranking sixth in hitting with a mark of .233). Bickley leads in hitting (.350, tied for seventh in LSC) and points per set (4.32, fifth in LSC). Defensively, Leddy Rae Guinn leads LCU with an average of 4.2 digs per set (10th in LSC).
 
- LCU has showcased impressive strength at home, posting a 5-2 record in matches played. The team's offense stands out, averaging 14.9 kills per set and achieving a solid .232 hitting percentage, significantly outpacing opponents' .176 percentage. Strong setting has been a cornerstone, with LCU posting 13.7 assists per set, facilitated by standout performances from Kayton Genenbacher (11.8 per set). Defensively, LCU has dominated digs with a 16.1 digs-per-set average. Lily Bickley leads in kills 96 (3.56) and points with 128.0 (4.7 per set). Payton Murray, with 3.2 kills per set (80 total kills), and Bryleigh Schweer, averaging 2.78 kills and 1.11 blocks, has provided balance as well.
