Lady Chaps Host New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday Afternoon

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team looks to bounce back as they welcome RMAC foe New Mexico Highlands to town Wednesday afternoon.
 
Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex and will be streamed live on FloFC with Brennan Riker on the call.

Notes:
  • The Lady Chaps are off to a 1-2-1 start in 2024 following a 1-0 loss on the road against Metropolitan State of Denver on Sunday (Sept. 15). 
  • Avery Jennings, Ella Spiller, and Ceci Madrid have found the back of the net this season for the Lady Chaps. Jennings and Spiller lead the squad in points with three each.
  • Sophomore Emma Wright has started every match in goal for the Lady Chaps, tallying 22 saves on 65 shots faced.
  • Head Coach Alistair Caldwell enters his first season at the helm of the Lady Chaps. Prior to being hired on April 8, Caldwell was the Head Coach at Lubbock's Coronado High School. In a little over seven years at the helm, Caldwell led the program to five District titles and four Regional Tournament appearances. With the girl's program, he finished with a 145-37-14 overall record. Joining him on the sidelines are assistant coaches Houston Fralick and Joao Souza.
  • Lubbock Christian is coming off a 7-7-3 season in 2023, dropping three of their last four games. The Lady Chaps return three of their top four point scorers from last season.
  • The Lady Chaps were picked to finish eighth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll.
  • Wednesday will be the fourth meeting all-time between LCU and New Mexico Highlands. The Lady Chaps have dominated the series holding a 3-0 record against the Cowgirls. 
  • LCU has outscored the Cowgirls 13-1 in the first three meetings, including a 4-0 win last season. 

Scouting New Mexico Highlands:
  • New Mexico Highlands comes into Wednesday's match with a 2-1-1 record following a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Concordia St. Paul on Sunday (Sept. 15).
  • The Cowgirls' two victories matches the win total of their last four seasons combined. 
  • Kate Rayner leads the Cowgirls with two goals this season. Ruth Covery and Acacia Rodriguez are responsible for the other Cowgirl goals. 
  • Goalkeeper Peyton Greener has started three of the four games in net for New Mexico Highlands, tallying 12 saves on 28 shots faced.
  • In 2023, New Mexico Highlands finished the season winless with a 0-14-2 overall record.
  • The Cowgirls were picked to finish last in the RMAC preseason poll.
  • New Mexico Highlands is coached by Amanda Evans who is in her 1st season at the helm. 
  A Win Would:
  • Bring LCU's season record to 2-2-1.
  • Give the Lady Chaps their 123rd win in program history.
  • Be the second win in the Coach Caldwell era.
