PUEBLO, Colo. (October 13, 2025) — Battling through brisk morning conditions and firm fairways, the Lubbock Christian University women's golf team turned in a steady opening round Monday at the NCAA West Region Preview, sitting sixth in the 21-team field after carding a 310 (+26) at Pueblo Country Club (5,981 yards | par 71).
Freshman
Nadalie Cannell paced the Lady Chaps with a 3-over 74, tying for ninth place individually. Cannell played the par-3s with precision, finishing 1-under (2.80 average) to tie for the second-best mark in the tournament field (, while her 13 pars also tied for third-most among all competitors.
Ali Escamilla followed with a 76 (+5),sitting tied for 18th, fueled by a smooth 37 on the front nine and three birdies.
Anaya Perales was close behind at 77 (+6), tied for 27th, and closed strong on the back nine with a -1 under score over the final six holes.
Rounding out the lineup,
Alejandra Escobar posted an 83 (+12) and
Hailey Hays signed for 84 (+13) as the Lady Chaps' consistency from top to bottom kept them within striking distance of the top five.
As a team, LCU excelled on the short holes, leading all programs in Par 3 scoring (3.12, +3) and ranking second in total pars (52), trailing only defending national champion DBU, who leads the event. The Lady Chaps' control off the tee and consistency on approach shots helped them finish ahead of regional opponents including Simon Fraser and St. Mary's (TX).
The NCAA West Region Preview serves as a fall rehearsal for the 2025 NCAA Division II West Regional, which Pueblo Country Club will host next spring.
