AUSTIN, Texas (October 23, 2025) - Facing one of the nation's premier Division I programs, Lubbock Christian University showed early composure and effort before falling 102-44 to No.4 Texas in exhibition play Thursday night inside Moody Center. Despite Texas using its size advantage, LCU did muster 20 of their 44 points in the paint.
LCU hung with Texas through parts of the first quarter —
Kennedy Chappell's jumper (assisted by
Raegan Lee) tied the game early at 2-2 before Lee had a field goal of her own for a 4-3 LCU lead — but Texas steadily pulled away with sustained offense and a barrage of offensive rebounds.
The second quarter belonged to the home team: Texas scored 30 points in the frame and took a 53-20 lead into halftime. The Longhorns' pressure and size produced 33 offensive rebounds on the night and 38 free-throw attempts (Texas made 25).
LCU continued to compete through the second half, showing resilience despite a difficult stretch in the third quarter (30–10). LCU responded with an improved effort in the fourth, keeping pace with Texas in an 18–14 frame.
Freshman
Meg Meekins led LCU with nine points and three assists in a starting role, while Lee added seven points and three rebounds. Chappell finished with eight points, three rebounds and a team-high eight turnovers.
Ally Ihler chipped in four points, three rebounds and a block. LCU finished with 24 rebounds (10 offensive, 14 defensive) and nine players reached the scoring column.
Coach
Steve Gomez's club used the exhibition trip as a measuring stick against an elite Division I opponent; the contest was LCU's lone exhibition before the regular season tips Nov. 1 at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in St. Joseph, Mo. Thursday's outing moved LCU to 4-7 all-time in games against Division I programs (exhibitions and regular season combined).
GAME NOTES
- LCU moves to 4-7 all-time in games played against NCAA Division I programs (combined exhibition and regular season games).
- The game was LCU's lone exhibition game scheduled for the season.
- Lubbock Christian University officially gets the 2025-26 regular season underway Nov. 1 against Adams State at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic, hosted by St. Joseph Sports Commission, inside St. Joseph Civic Center.

- Texas, who last faced LCU on Oct. 28, 2019 (83-73 loss), fell to 0-2 all-time against the Longhorns. They are also 0-2 all-time against UT head coach Vic Schaefer, as Schaefer hosted the Lady Chaps while at Mississippi State on Nov. 4, 2019 (LCU fell 78-57).
- LCU had 13 players active for the game, and all 13 played at least 5:43 of the contest (nine of the 13 appeared in the offensive boxscore).
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lady Chaps now turn their focus to the regular season opener Nov. 1 against Adams State in St. Joseph, Mo., where LCU will look to sharpen its execution after a challenging but instructive night at Moody Center.
