Program Records Fall As Bowman Fires 62 And Sets 54-Hole Mark At 199

MONTROSE, Colo. (September 23, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University men's golf launched its 2025–26 season with record-breaking performances at The Bridges Golf & Country Club (Par 71 | 7,017 yards), finishing tied for fifth place at the San Juan Intercollegiate with a program-record 54-hole total of 844 (-8).

The Chaparrals set the tone early with a 274 (-10) in Round One, the second-lowest team round in program history, powered by senior Hayden Bowman's historic 62 (-9). Bowman's round shattered the program's single-round scoring record, previously held by Leon Scheepers (65 in 2012), and featured birdies on nine different holes, including a 29 on the back nine. He carried that momentum through the week, closing with rounds of 68 and 69 to finish runner-up individually at 199 (-14). That total not only earned Bowman his second career top-three finish, but also broke the program's 54-hole scoring record, surpassing the 206 (-10) set by Braxton Floyd at the 2022 Lone Star Conference Championships.

LCU's depth shined through senior Maximiliano Dufey, who tied for fifth at 207 (-6). After opening with a steady 68, Dufey bounced back from a second-round 74 with a spectacular 65 (-6) in the final round. That score, which featured eight birdies over the final 11 holes, tied for the second-best single round in program history, trailing only Bowman's 62 earlier in the week. Dufey's 54-hole total also tied for the third-best in program history, matching current head coach Jeff Maciejewski's 207 from 2018–19.

Noel Bondesson also provided consistency, finishing tied for 31st at 215 (+2) with rounds of 68, 74, and 73. Hudson Reagan tied for 47th at 227 (+14), highlighted by a gritty second-round 72 (+1), while Tres Arreola tied for 53rd at 228 (+15).

As a team, the Chaparrals left their mark across the stat sheet:
  • Par 3s: LCU ranked second in the field at 3.17 average (+13), led by Bowman's tournament-best 2.80 average (-3).
  • Par 4s: LCU finished ninth overall at 4.14 (+19).
  • Par 5s: The Chaps held eighth at 4.65 (-21), powered by Bowman's 4.25 average (-9) and Dufey's 4.42 (-7).
  • Birdies: The Chaps ranked sixth in the field with 56, including Bowman's 19 (tied for most in the tournament) and Dufey's 16.
  • Pars: LCU tied for second-most in the tournament with 155, highlighted by Reagan's 35 (tied for third-most individually).

Despite weather interruptions and lightning delays that stretched second-round play across two days, LCU set multiple benchmarks in program history:
  • Team 54-hole record: 844 (+22), breaking the previous best of 848 at the 2011–12 DBU Classic.
  • Individual 54-hole record: Bowman's 199 (-14), the lowest in program history.
  • Single-round record: Bowman's 62 (-9) in Round One.
  • Second-best round in program history (tie): Dufey's 65 (-6) in Round Three.
  • Team round vs. par: -10 in Round One, tying the program record.

LCU also stacked up well against national competition, finishing tied for fifth in a field featuring No. 14 Colorado Christian, No. 19 Colorado Mesa (host), and RV West Texas A&M. Eight teams of the 12 in the field finished with an even score or under, led by an 828 by Colorado Mesa. LCU tied with No.14 Colorado Christian. Luis Poloma of WT was the individual champion with a 197 (-16) tournament total.

The Chaps head for an international competition for the first time in their history Sunday, as they head to Akumal, Mexico to compete in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya.
