AKUMAL, Mexico (September. 29, 2025) – Playing in its first-ever international competition, the Lubbock Christian University men's golf team grinded through the heat, mosquitoes, darkness and tough pin placements Sunday, finishing seventh after Round 1 of the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya. The Chaparrals posted a team score of 306 (+18) at Tulum Country Club's championship track (6,980 yards | par 72), leaving them just seven shots back of co-leaders West Texas A&M and UT Tyler (299).
Sophomore
Maximiliano Dufey paced LCU with a 2-over 74, placing him tied for seventh individually. Dufey was sharp early, playing the front nine at 1-under highlighted by birdies on Nos. 2 and 12, and leads the tournament on par-4s, averaging 3.90 (-1). His 13 pars tied him for the team lead and kept him inside the top 10 after one round.
Hudson Reagan turned in a steady back nine to post 76 (+4), tying for 16th. He carded a birdie on No. 10 and closed with a 35 (-1) on the back nine, finishing tied for seventh in par-4 scoring (4.10, +1).
Noel Bondesson and
Tres Arreola both signed for 78s (+6) to tie for 33rd. Bondesson's round included a birdie on the par-3 17th and ranked him second (in the tournament) on par-3s (2.75, -1). Arreola contributed two birdies, including a three on the par-4 13th, as he helped LCU tie for fourth among the 15-team field with nine birdies overall.
Rounding out the squad,
Hayden Bowman battled through a difficult front nine but rebounded with a birdie on No. 15 en route to an 80 (+8), tied for 50th. Bowman matched Reagan with 10 pars apiece.
The Chaps' 306 placed them just above the field average and kept them firmly in striking distance on a compact leaderboard. Statistically, LCU ranked fourth in pars (55), was middle of the pack in birdies (9), and showed mixed results by category — excelling on par-4s (4.30, +15, 5th-best in the field) and par-5s (Chaps averaged 5.10 (+2) to rank fifth in the field), but struggling on par-3s (3.45, +9, tied 10th).
