RICHARDSON, Texas (September 9, 2025) – The Lone Star Conference announced the first weekly honors for the 2025 volleyball season and Lubbock Christian University's Camdyn Sears was recognized with Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Lubbock Christian University opened the 2025 season with four matches at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., finishing the weekend with a 2–2 record. The Lady Chaparrals posted sweeps over Truman State and Southern Arkansas while dropping contests to host Pittsburg State and Missouri Western, with the latter decided in five sets.
 
Freshman setter Camdyn Sears delivered a strong collegiate debut at the Gorilla Classic, producing three consecutive double-doubles while guiding the Lady Chaps' attack. Sears totaled 131 assists over four matches (9.36 per set), ranking third in the Lone Star Conference, and added 45 digs defensively. She distributed 47 assists with 20 digs in a five-set battle against Missouri Western, and earlier in the tournament posted her first career double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs in a sweep of Truman State. The midland, Texas native also recorded 32 assists against Southern Arkansas as the Lady Chaps hit .263 as a team.
 
Sears is the first freshman setter to register over 40 assists in a match for the Lady Chaps since Bradi Marshall posted 49 on Nov. 9, 2018. Last season was the first season the LSC included Freshman of the Week into their weekly awards. Sears is LCU's second-ever recipient of the accolade, as Leddy Rae Guinn claimed Freshman of the Week recognition last season (Sept. 30, 2024).
 
LCU plays their fifth match of a span of nine matches over a 10-day span Tuesday, as LCU faces former Sooner Athletic Conference rival Wayland Baptist. The non-conference match is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas.
