LCU Track & Field Teams Open Outdoor Season

Chaps, Lady Chaps Compete at West Texas Relays

Men's Track & Field | 03.21.2026

CANYON, Texas (March 21, 2026) – The Lubbock Christian University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2026 outdoor campaign this weekend at the West Texas Relays hosted by West Texas A&M.
 
LCU's best performances on the men's side came in the 200-meter, where they got three runners in the top five and a pair of NCAA provisional marks. Reuel Campbell started the outdoor season strong, taking third with a time of 20.96 and Daniel Sianez came in just a hair behind him in fourth with a time of 20.96. Chris Moffett was in fifth with a time of 21.08.
 
Another two top five finishes came in the 800-meter. Maximus Mancilla took third with a time of 2:01.10, and Khaedyn Lawson placed fifth, completing the race in 2:02.22.
 
Matthew Gordon shined in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:01.91, taking second place in the event. Alfons Rawall placed sixth in the same race, posting a time of 4:04.38.
 
The Chaparrals also had success in the hurdle events. In the 110 hurdles, Jaqualand Fields placed third with a time of 15.05. LCU placed two in the top five of the 400-meter hurdles. Rudy Gomez finished in second and Yair Berrios took third.
 
LCU also had a pair of teams in the 4X100 relay. One squad – made up of Nathaniel Luna, Christian Saenz, Fields and Aden Soto – took second with a time of 41.02.
 
The Lady Chaps had a whole slew of their own top five finishes both on the track and in field events.
 
Joy Egwu led the way in both the 100-meter and the 200-meter, earning top three finishes in both. She placed third in the 100-meter with a time of 11.79 and second in the 200 with a time of 24.25.
 
Anika Beukes also finished top five in the 100, while Elizabeth Florez took fourth in the 200-meter and Kerrigan Huynh placed fifth. Florez also took fourth in the 400-meter with a time of 55.59.
 
On the distance side, Olivia Weider had a big 2026 outdoor debut with a third place finish in the 1500-meter. She completed the race in a time of 4:58.77.
 
In the field events, LCU got second place finishes in both the high jump and the pole vault. Annabell Phillips took second in the high jump with a distance of 1.58 meters, and Paige Byford was right behind her in third. It was Drew Grellhesl placing in the pole vault for the Lady Chaps, clearing 3.35 meters.
A second place finish in the triple jump came from Matilda Galvan, and Faizah Ford took third for in the long jump.
 
LCU's final top-two finish was in the discus from Shelby Robinson, who had a final toss of 44.21m.
 
The track & field teams will next be in action on March 27-28 at the Masked Rider Open hosted in Lubbock by Texas Tech.
