BETHLEHEM, Pa. (July 23, 2026) – Incoming Lubbock Christian University men's golf freshman Kaden Frierson earned a place among the final 64 golfers at one of junior golf's premier events, advancing to match play at the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Frierson finished tied for 19th during the championship's 36-hole stroke-play portion, carding consecutive rounds of 71 for a 1-over-par total of 142. His performance comfortably placed him inside the top 64 of the 264-player field and earned him a spot in Wednesday's Round of 64.
The Austin, Texas, native opened the championship Monday with a 1-over 71 on Saucon Valley's par-70 Grace Course. Frierson recorded two birdies during the round, including a birdie on the par-5 opening hole, before adding another at the par-4 15th.
Frierson followed with an even-par 71 Tuesday on the Old Course, which served as the championship's primary venue. After making three bogeys over his opening four holes, Frierson responded by playing the final 14 holes in 3 under.
He began the turnaround with a birdie on the par-5 sixth and closed the opening nine with consecutive birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. His birdie at the par-3 ninth completed an even-par outward nine, and Frierson recorded nine consecutive pars on the back nine to secure his place in match play.
Frierson's 142 was safely below the match-play cutoff. A 14-player playoff was required to determine the final two qualifiers, with Charlie Woods, the son of three-time U.S. Junior Amateur champion Tiger Woods, among those eliminated in the playoff.
Matched against incoming University of Michigan golfer Spencer Shropshire in the Round of 64, Frierson established an early advantage on the Old Course. He won the opening hole with a birdie and remained 1 up through four holes before Shropshire squared the match with a birdie at the par-4 fifth.
Frierson regained the lead with a birdie on the par-4 eighth, but Shropshire answered at No. 9 to send the match to the back nine all square. They would eventually be tied through 15, before Shropshire tallied a par on 16 and a birdie on 18 to clinch the 2-up win over Frierson.
Despite the Round-of-64 defeat, Frierson concluded the championship having placed among the top 20 during stroke play and advanced farther than 200 players in a field featuring many of the world's leading junior golfers.
The U.S. Junior Amateur featured 264 competitors and is contested July 20-25 on Saucon Valley Country Club's Old and Grace courses. The Old Course served as the primary championship venue, while the Grace Course was used as a stroke-play co-host.
Frierson earned his exemption into the national championship by winning the 100th Texas Junior Amateur Boys Division title July 1 at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas.
After opening the Texas Junior Amateur with a 2-over 74, Frierson climbed 15 places with a bogey-free, 4-under 68 in the second round. He completed the event with a 2-under 70 to finish at 4-under 212, two strokes ahead of Isaiah Diaz and Aadi Parmar.
Frierson entered his final round tied for second and sealed the title with a birdie on the par-5 16th before closing with consecutive pars. The victory made him the 100th boys champion in the tournament's history and secured his exemption into the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Frierson joins the LCU men's golf program for the 2026-27 season.
