SAN ANGELO, Texas (September 10, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University may not be home, but the Lady Chaparrals are in Texas for the first time this season as they continue a season-opening stretch that features their first 12 matches away from home. LCU will compete this week at the Lone Star Conference Challenge, opening the event Friday at 6 p.m. against West Texas A&M in a non-conference match inside Junell Center. The Lady Chaps will then face host No.9 Angelo State at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters the Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 4-4 record after splitting its first eight matches between tournaments in Gunnison, Colo., and Miami Shores, Fla. The Lady Chaps opened the season with three consecutive sweeps before dropping four of their next five matches, three of those losses coming against nationally ranked opponents. LCU went 1-3 at the Barry Invitational, defeating Converse in four sets while falling to No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 21 Lynn and No. 13 Barry. The Lady Chaps, 4-4 through eight matches for a second consecutive season, now return to Texas for the first time this season to face (RV) West Texas A&M and No. 9 Angelo State in San Angelo.
 
- LCU closes its nonconference schedule with two familiar Lone Star Conference opponents, though neither match will count toward the LSC standings. The Lady Chaps face West Texas A&M on Friday at 6 p.m. before meeting Angelo State on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside the Junell Center. The weekend gives LCU four nationally ranked opponents over a six-match stretch after the Lady Chaps faced No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 21 Lynn and No. 13 Barry last week in Miami Shores. LCU enters the weekend 0-3 against nationally ranked teams this season and looking to end a streak of 10 straight losses against nationally ranked foes.
 
- Camryn Blair has emerged as LCU's leading offensive option through eight matches, totaling 71 kills and averaging 3.23 per set. She ranks 10th in the Lone Star Conference in kills per set and seventh in points per set at 3.84. Blair produced one of her strongest performances of the season against Converse, finishing with 17 kills, a career-high four service aces and a career-best 22.0 points while hitting .286. The performance marked her fourth double-figure kill match of the season and the 10th of her career.
 
- Freshman middle blocker Kayson Reeves continues to make an immediate impact at the net. Reeves has 25 total blocks through eight matches and averages 1.00 block per set, ranking eighth in the Lone Star Conference. She is also hitting .302, the best percentage among LCU players meeting the statistical minimum, while contributing 2.48 kills per set. Reeves produced her first collegiate double-figure kill performance against No. 21 Lynn with 10 kills on 14 attempts and only one error for a .643 hitting percentage. She followed with seven kills and five block assists in LCU's four-set victory over Converse.
 
- Blocking remains LCU's strongest statistical area through the first two weekends. The Lady Chaps have recorded 51.0 total blocks and average 2.04 per set, ranking fifth in the Lone Star Conference and 56th nationally. Reeves leads the team with 25 total blocks, while Aubree Lundberg averages 0.86 blocks per set. LCU opened the season by recording at least eight blocks in each of its first four matches, including a season-high 10 against Western Colorado. The Lady Chaps have also held opponents to a combined .201 attack percentage through eight matches.
 
- Sophomore setter Camdyn Sears enters the weekend with another career milestone behind her after surpassing 1,500 career assists against Barry. Sears finished that match with 21 assists to raise her career total to 1,508, becoming the first Lady Chap to reach 1,500 career assists since Kayton Genenbacher accomplished the feat in 2023. Sears has 199 assists this season and averages 7.96 per set, ranking sixth in the Lone Star Conference. She also has two double-doubles this season, including a 41-assist, 15-dig performance in LCU's victory over Converse, which marked the 25th double-double of her collegiate career.
 
-Sears was also named to the Barry Invitational All-Tournament Team after directing the LCU offense throughout the four-match event. She totaled 99 assists during the tournament while contributing offensively and defensively from the setter position. Her weekend included 41 assists and 15 digs against Converse, 20 assists against No. 21 Lynn and 21 assists against No. 13 Barry. Sears enters the Lone Star Conference Challenge with 199 assists, 58 digs, 27 kills and 12 total blocks through eight matches.
 
- Leigh Jespersen has provided another consistent attacking option in her first season with LCU. The Hardin-Simmons transfer has taken a team-high-tying 225 attacks through eight matches and has produced multiple double-figure kill performances. She recorded 11 kills and eight digs in the victory over Converse, giving her 19 career double-figure kill matches when including her two seasons at Hardin-Simmons. Jespersen also led LCU with seven kills against No. 1 St. Cloud State and matched that total against No. 21 Lynn.
 
- LCU showed its best offensive balance of the Barry Invitational in the four-set victory over Converse. Blair finished with 17 kills, Tatum Fleitman added a career-high 12 while hitting .364 and Jespersen contributed 11, giving LCU three players in double figures. Sears distributed 41 assists as the Lady Chaps finished with 53 kills, nine service aces and eight total blocks. Fleitman's 12 kills marked her fourth career double-figure performance and first of the season, while Blair's 22.0 points and four aces were both career highs.
 
- The Lady Chaps enter the weekend averaging 11.40 kills, 10.24 assists, 13.20 digs and 1.52 service aces per set while hitting .160 as a team. LCU's 2.04 blocks per set stand out among those categories, ranking fifth in the LSC. Individually, Sears ranks sixth in the conference in assists per set, Blair ranks 10th in kills per set and seventh in points per set, Reeves ranks eighth in blocks per set, and Ramsey Clark leads the LCU back row at 3.44 digs per set.
 
- This season marks the fifth season in the LSC for the LSC Challenge (it is a conference-organized event to fill schedules and has previously been referred to as the LSC Crossover). LCU is 3-7 all-time in the crossover. In 2022, LCU was 0-3 in San Angelo, Texas, 1-3 at home in 2023 (serving as a host of the event), 0-2 in 2024 in Laredo, Texas and 2-0 last season in Oklahoma City, Okla. LCU is 0-1 all-time against WT and 0-1 against ASU in LSC Challenge meetings.
 
LOOKING AT WTAMU
- The "Rivalry on the Range" volleyball series will feature its 55th meeting between LCU and West Texas A&M Friday. The Lady Buffs lead the series with a 41-12-1 record, having won the past six meetings and nine of the last 10. The last met in neutral site play on Sept. 9, 2022 in San Angelo, where LCU fell 3-0 (1981 marked their prior neutral site match before the 2022 meeting).
 
- West Texas A&M enters the Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 4-5 record after navigating a demanding opening stretch that already includes matches against nationally ranked Ferris State, Central Missouri and Concordia-St. Paul. The Lady Buffs split four matches at the Colorado Premier Challenge last weekend, defeating Anderson and then-No. 25 Central Missouri in four sets while falling to Ferris State and No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul. WT also owns wins over Tuskegee and Adams State, while three of its five losses have extended beyond three sets. Before facing LCU on Friday, the Lady Buffs will meet host Angelo State on Thursday night in San Angelo.
 
- Junior Kaycee Cavanaugh has paced the WT offense through nine matches with 111 kills, averaging 3.00 per set, while also contributing 117 digs for 3.16 per set. She has produced multiple double-doubles and is coming off consecutive 13-kill performances against Central Missouri and Concordia-St. Paul. Freshman Skyler Massey provided a breakout effort in the win over Central Missouri, recording a career-high 20 kills on 38 attacks with only four errors for a .421 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker Anna Ruter has been WT's most efficient regular attacker, hitting .322 while totaling 67 kills.
 
- WT has used a two-setter look, with Casey Loewer and Hannah Pemberton combining for 337 assists. Loewer leads the team with 176 assists and averages 4.76 per set, while Pemberton has 161 at 4.35 per set. Both also have 14 service aces, tied for third in the LSC in total aces. Defensively, Avery Ramos leads the back row with 152 digs and averages 4.11 per set, ranking seventh in the conference. As a team, WT averages 14.92 digs per set and has accumulated 552 digs, the second-highest total in the LSC and 17th-most nationally.
 
- Blocking has been one of WT's strongest areas early in the season. The Lady Buffs average 2.08 blocks per set, ranking fourth in the Lone Star Conference and 50th nationally, while their 77.0 total blocks rank 10th in NCAA Division II. Casey Loewer leads the team with 38 total blocks and averages 1.03 per set, while Ruter has 36 blocks at the same 1.03-per-set rate. Freshman Ellie Koprek has added 26 total blocks. WT also held Central Missouri to a .089 attack percentage in its four-set victory last weekend while producing 11 blocks of its own.
