SAN ANGELO, Texas (September 12, 2026) – With Lone Star Conference play looming, Lubbock Christian University closes out the Lone Star Conference Challenge Saturday with its final conference tune-up against No. 9 Angelo State at 2 p.m. inside Junell Center. The non-conference matchup marks LCU's fourth against a nationally ranked opponent over a six-match stretch.

LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters Saturday's matchup with No. 9 Angelo State at 4-5 overall after opening the Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 3-0 loss to West Texas A&M on Friday. The Lady Chaps opened the season with three consecutive sweeps before dropping five of their next six matches, including three setbacks against nationally ranked opponents. LCU went 1-3 at the Barry Invitational before returning to Texas for the first time this season. Saturday's match against ASU will conclude the Lady Chaps' nonconference schedule before Lone Star Conference play begins.
 
- Saturday gives LCU its fourth nationally ranked opponent over a seven-match stretch. The Lady Chaps previously faced No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 21 Lynn and No. 13 Barry during the Barry Invitational and enter the ASU match 0-3 against nationally ranked teams this season. LCU is seeking its first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 25 West Texas A&M on Nov. 6, 2021, in Lubbock. The Lady Chaps have dropped 10 consecutive matches against nationally ranked opponents entering Saturday.
 
- LCU was held to 25 kills and a .017 attack percentage against West Texas A&M, but the Lady Chaps remained competitive behind their defensive effort. LCU recorded 54 digs, its second-highest total in a three-set match this season, and held WT to a .148 attack percentage. The Lady Chaps led during portions of all three sets, including a 22-22 tie late in the second and a 17-15 advantage in the third, but WT closed each frame late to complete the sweep.
 
- Camryn Blair continues to lead the LCU offense with 76 kills through nine matches, averaging 3.04 per set. Blair has four double-figure kill performances this season, highlighted by her 17-kill effort against Converse that also included career highs of four service aces and 22.0 points. She has taken 242 attacks this season, second on the team behind Leigh Jespersen, and has contributed 14 total blocks and six service aces.
 
- Freshman middle blocker Kayson Reeves remains one of LCU's most efficient offensive options, hitting a team-best .299 among regular attackers. Reeves has 60 kills through 28 sets and leads the Lady Chaps with 27 total blocks, averaging 0.96 per set. Her season includes a career-high 10 kills on 14 attempts with one error for a .643 hitting percentage against No. 21 Lynn. Reeves added four kills and two blocks Friday against West Texas A&M.
 
- Blocking continues to be one of LCU's more productive areas through nine matches. The Lady Chaps have 56.0 total blocks and average 2.00 per set. Reeves leads the team with 27 blocks, followed by Aubree Lundberg with 18, Tatum Fleitman with 16 and Blair with 14. LCU opened the season with at least eight blocks in each of its first four matches. West Texas A&M recorded 11 blocks Friday, the highest total by an LCU opponent this season.
 
-Sophomore setter Camdyn Sears recorded her third double-double of the season and 26th of her LCU career Friday against West Texas A&M, finishing with 20 assists and a season-high 16 digs. Sears now has 219 assists and 83 digs through nine matches while averaging 7.82 assists and 2.96 digs per set. She surpassed 1,500 career assists during the Barry Invitational and entered Saturday with 1,528 career assists. Sears was also named to the Barry Invitational All-Tournament Team after totaling 99 assists during LCU's four matches in Miami Shores.
 
- Leigh Jespersen turned in her strongest defensive performance as a Lady Chap against West Texas A&M, recording a season-high 14 digs for her first double-figure dig performance at LCU. She also finished with eight kills, coming two kills shy of her first LCU double-double. The Hardin-Simmons transfer has 72 kills, 60 digs and nine service aces through nine matches. Jespersen has produced two double-figure kill performances this season and entered the year with 17 from her career at Hardin-Simmons.
 
- Tatum Fleitman provided one of LCU's more efficient offensive performances Friday, finishing with six kills and hitting .250 against West Texas A&M while adding two solo blocks. Fleitman has 36 kills this season and is hitting .269, second among LCU regular attackers behind Reeves. Her season has been highlighted by a career-high 12 kills on a .364 attack percentage in the four-set victory over Converse, which marked her fourth career double-figure kill performance.
 
- Through nine matches, LCU is averaging 11.07 kills, 10.00 assists, 13.71 digs, 1.54 service aces and 2.00 blocks per set while hitting .143 as a team. Opponents are averaging 12.32 kills and 14.61 digs per set while hitting .194. Blair leads LCU with 76 kills, Reeves owns the top hitting percentage at .299 and leads the team with 27 blocks, Sears has a team-high 219 assists, and Ramsey Clark leads the Lady Chaps with 96 digs.
 
- This season marks the fifth season in the LSC for the LSC Challenge (it is a conference-organized event to fill schedules and has previously been referred to as the LSC Crossover). LCU is 3-8 all-time in the crossover. In 2022, LCU was 0-3 in San Angelo, Texas, 1-3 at home in 2023 (serving as a host of the event), 0-2 in 2024 in Laredo, Texas and 2-0 last season in Oklahoma City, Okla. LCU moved to 0-2 all-time against WT and is 0-1 against ASU in LSC Challenge meetings.
 
LOOKING AT ASU
- LCU and Angelo State are meeting for the 39^th time all-time. ASU went 3-0 against LCU last season, with a pair of postseason wins. ASU, who had a nine-match win streak early in the all-time series, has won the prior 12 meetings and leads the all-time series 29-9. Seven of the last 10 meetings have been played in San Angelo, where the Belles are 15-5 against LCU.
 
-  No. 9 Angelo State enters Saturday's matchup with a 9-1 record after opening the Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 3-1 victory over West Texas A&M on Thursday. The Belles dropped the opening set 25-18 before responding with 25-18, 25-10 and 25-22 victories. ASU outhit WT .211 to .083 and finished with advantages in assists (53-37) and blocks (12-11). The win followed ASU's only loss of the season, a straight-set setback to Ferris State in the Colorado Premier Challenge championship match. Ferris State has since moved to No. 1 nationally.
 
- Angelo State enters the match averaging 13.97 kills and 12.74 assists per set while hitting .238 as a team. The Belles have held opponents to a .135 attack percentage and 10.59 kills per set while averaging 16.97 digs and 1.94 blocks. Julia Hopkins leads ASU with 87 kills, while Madi Parrish has 88 kills and a team-high 103 points. Sydney Thornton has 78 kills while hitting .341, and Alli Kirkpatrick has added 77 kills on a .301 attack percentage. ASU has also produced 63 service aces through 10 matches.
 
- Parrish led ASU past West Texas A&M with a 14-kill, 18-dig double-double, raising her season totals to 88 kills and 103 digs. Hopkins added 12 kills in the win, while Kirkpatrick and Thornton recorded nine apiece. Thornton, the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Week, also made a major impact defensively with seven blocks, including four solo. She now has a team-high 30 total blocks this season. Allie Duitsman led ASU with 22 digs against WT, while Madison Scrivner produced her first double-double of the season with 24 assists and 12 digs.
 
- The Junell Center-Stephens Arena continues to provide Angelo State with a significant home-court advantage. The Belles are 5-0 at home this season and improved their recent home record to 42-2 over the past three seasons with Thursday's victory over West Texas A&M. ASU has drawn 5,068 fans across five home dates this season, an average of 1,014 per match. Under head coach Chuck Waddington, Angelo State entered the weekend with more than 220 victories inside the Junell Center-Stephens Arena and an overall home winning percentage above .860.
