Lady Chaps March Past Saints To Close Exhibition Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 10, 2014) – Five players were in double figures in points and Lubbock Christian University closed out their exhibition season cruising to a 100-80 victory over No.11 (NAIA) Our Lady of the Lake University Monday night inside Rip Griffin Center.

LCU never trailed and jumped on the scoreboard 12 seconds into the game with a three-pointer by Haley Fowler. It kicked off a good night for her, as she led all scorers with 25 points off 7-of-10 shooting from the field, which included a 3-of-5 mark from three-point range. LCU led 48-26 at the half and followed with 53.1% (17/32) shooting in the second half and going 6-of-10 (60%) from long range. The Lady Chaparrals led as much as 29 points (93-64) in the second half.

No player had a double-double, but several Lady Chaps were close, posting impressive numbers. Haley Burton produced 14 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals. Teammate Kellyn Schneider had 13 rebounds, eight points and six blocks. Allison Szabo (16 points), Bailey Haist (13 points) and Hannah Harbin (11 points) all produced at least 10 points for LCU. OLLU was led by 14 points each from Vasiliki Tarlas and Julia Rendon.

The Lady Chaps won big despite committing 25 turnovers, leading to a 26-18 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers for OLLU. The Saints were whistled for 24 fouls leading to 39 free-throw attempts for LCU. The Lady Chaps out-scored OLLU 39-7 from the free-throw line.

LCU was 49.2% (30/61) from the field and 58.8% (10/17) from the perimeter, while OLLU was 35.2% (31/88) from the field overall and 29.7% (11/37) from long distance.  The Lady Chaps closed their exhibition schedule with a 2-0 record. They open the regular season Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. (Central) facing University of Colorado – Colorado Springs to open play at the Tony Corbetta Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
