ROAD RUNNIN' FINALLY COMES TO AN END
After spending their three-game exhibition season and their opening two regular season games on the road, Lubbock Christian University finally plays their first home game Friday, as the Lady Chaparrals play host to Eastern New Mexico before wrapping up their opening weekend at home Saturday hosting Fort Lewis College. LCU went as far northeast as Boston (exhibition opener at Fisher) and last weekend opened the regular season with wins over Colorado State-Pueblo and Metropolitan State of Denver in a pair of games played in Pueblo, Colo.

LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST GAME
Kelsey Hoppel went 6-of-8 from three-point range to lead all scorers with 22 points and her performance highlighted a milestone night for No.15/23 Lubbock Christian University, as she eclipsed 1,000 career points while leading the Lady Chaparrals to a 72-44 win over Metropolitan State University of Denver Saturday evening to close their stay at the Al-Kaly Shrine Classic hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo.

Hoppel entered the game needing 11 points to hit the 1,000-point mark and hit the mark with one of three first-half three-pointers, as she scored all 11 points needed in the opening half. Hoppel also passed Angie Taylor for fourth all-time on LCU's career three-point list. She now has 189 career three-pointers. Haley Burton was the last Lady Chaps member to hit the 1,000-point mark and she completed the task in the 2014-2015 season opener. Nicole Hampton is LCU's only other active 1,000-point player and she hit a few milestones of her own. Hampton surpassed 1,300 career points with her 73rd career double-figure offensive performance (13 points) and she also recorded five steals for her 230th career steal to move past Tabitha Qubty-Sellers and into third all-time in program history. Haley Fowler completed LCU's trio of players in double figures with 10 points and it helped her eclipse 700 career points.

As for the game, LCU used a strong opening quarter to move to 2-0 on the season. Trailing 7-6, LCU responded with an 11-0 run and used seven points in the quarter from Allison Szabo to help LCU close the quarter on a 18-3 scoring advantage for a 25-9 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

LCU's flow in the remaining three quarters would not be the same, but they had their own consistency.  The Lady Chaps did not score a point in the second quarter until 4:13 remained in the half, they went the opening 3:12 of the third quarter without a field goal and then followed in the fourth quarter without a point for the opening 3:07.

Jumping back to the second quarter, early fouls on starters Tess Bruffey and Kellyn Schneider sent their interior to the bench and Metro State took advantage of the opportunity. A 10-0 Roadrunners run cut LCU's lead to 25-19, but LCU bounced back with a 12-7 scoring advantage over the final 4:13 of the half for a 37-26 halftime lead.

The Lady Chaps quick surge of offense in the second quarter duplicated itself in the third quarter. Bruffey's three-pointer to end the field-goal drought to open the third quarter jumpstarted a 20-5 scoring surge and helped LCU head into the final quarter with a 60-36 lead. Hoppel connected on three three-pointers and produced 11 points in the quarter.

New Lady Chaps Antoinette Iroko, Allea Harris, Bobbi Chitsey and Olivia Robertson each made their LCU debut in the second half. Harris hit a three-pointer on her first shot attempt, Chitsey produced five points in the fourth quarter (knocked down her first three-point attempt) and Robertson was 2-for-2 from the line in the fourth quarter for her first collegiate points.

All 14 players on roster played for LCU and 10 produced points. The team shot 40% (24/60) from the field and Hoppel was 7-of-11. She knocked down six of LCU's 10 three-pointers (LCU was 10/20 for 50% from the perimeter). Defensively, LCU held Metro to 30.4% (17/56) from the field. The 44 points by Metro State was their lowest offensive output since scoring 43 on Mar. 1, 2014 (vs. UC-Colorado Springs) and the 28-point deficit was their worst deficit since losing 67-38 (29 points) to Quincy on Nov. 28, 2008.

TOURNAMENT HARDWARE

Two Lady Chaps were honored for their play at the Al Kaly Shrine Classic hosted by CSU-Pueblo, as Kelsey Hoppel was named Classic MVP and Nicole Hampton was named to the All-Tournament Team.

OFF TO A GOOD START
LCU is 2-0 to start the season. If they can move to 3-0, it would mark their best start since opening the 2012-2013 season 16-0.  LCU's 2-0 start began with a pair of road wins, marking the first time LCU has opened the season with a 2-0 start and the wins coming on the road since the 1994-1995 season when LCU opened the season with wins at Oklahoma Panhandle State and St. Edward's.

HOME OPENERS
The Lady Chaps have won their home openers the prior three seasons. Their last home opening loss was a 61-44 loss to Metro State on Nov. 5, 2011. LCU is 11-1 all-time in home openers under Steve Gomez.

LOW KEY
LCU has allowed an average of 43.5 points this season, which ranks fifth nationally. Flagler leads the nation allowing 35 points per game. LCU's defense enters the weekend ranking ninth nationally, holding opponents to a 28.1% shooting percentage.

BLOCKING THINGS OUT
Tess Bruffey Produced six blocks in the opening weekend of play. Her average of three blocks a game ranks eighth nationally.

MILESTONE WATCH - PART ONE
The following milestones were topped Saturday in Pueblo:
-   Kelsey Hoppel eclipsed 1,000 career points. The last Lady Chap to eclipse 1,000 points was Haley Burton (she completed the task in last season's season opener) and Hoppel is  the second Lady Chap on the roster with 1,000 points (Nicole Hampton is the other).
-   Kelsey Hoppel hit six three-pointers for 188 in her career, which moved her past Angie Taylor and into fourth all-time in program history.
-   Haley Fowler reached 700 career points.
-   Nicole Hampton achieved 1,300 career points.
-   Nicole Hampton surpassed 227 career steals, moved her past Tabitha Qubty-Sellers and into third all-time in program history.

MILESTONE WATCH - PART TWO
-   Kelsey Hoppel is 17 three-pointers away from moving past Haley Burton (204) and into third all-time in program history for career three-pointers.
-   Kellyn Schneider needs 12 blocks to pass Candace Clenney (122) and move into second place on LCU's career blocks list.
-   Nicole Hampton is 34 rebounds shy of passing Darla Lynch (838) and moving into second on the program's all-time rebound list.
-   Tess Bruffey needs eight blocks to move past Mamy N'Kolomoni (93) and into fourth on LCU's career block list.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ENMU
• The Greyhounds (formerly the Zias) come to LCU 1-1 after a win over Adams State and a loss to Fort Lewis last weekend in Durango to open the season.
• The Lone Star Conference has ENMU preseason picked eighth.
• The 'Hounds return four starters from last season's 9-18 squad, which went 5-11 in Lone Star play for a seventh place conference finish.
• Miranda Moore leads ENMU in scoring with 15 points per game and also has seven steals defensively.
• The Greyhounds defense ranks 15th in the nation, as they have allowed opponents to a 30.1% shooting mark on the season.

THE SERIES AGAINST ENMU
The 'Hounds own a 24-11 all-time advantage against the Lady Chaps, but LCU has won the prior three meetings and eight of the last 10. LCU is 4-2 all-time against ENMU under head coach Steve Gomez. The last two meetings in Lubbock have resulted in a 101-66 and a 101-49 win by LCU.

PRIOR MEETING VS. ENMU
Nov. 29, 2014 (Lubbock, Texas): LCU 101 - ENMU 49
Lubbock Christian University set a program single-game record in shooting percentage with a 69.2% shooting mark, as seven players produced double figures and all 12 players that touched the floor for LCU figured into the scoring of a 101-49 victory over Eastern New Mexico to close play in the Lowe's Market Thanksgiving Classic at Rip Griffin Center.

All 12 players that touched the floor for LCU played at least 10 minutes and they combined to go 36-of-52 (69.2%) from the field. LCU was 77.4% (24/31) in the first half alone, leading to a 59-19 halftime lead. They also produced defensively, holding ENMU to a 22.6% (7/31) shooting mark in the first half. Ironically, the last time LCU held an opponent to 19 points or less in a first half was Jan. 6, 2014 at Eastern New Mexico (17 points). The 69.2% shooting mark broke the prior team record of 68.5% (37/54) set at the NAIA National Tournament against Georgetown (Kent.) on Mar. 15, 2013.

Seven different players made it to the free-throw line for LCU and they combined to go 95% from the line, missing one shot on 20 attempts. Allison Szabo led the pace, going 8-for-8 from the line.

The Lady Chaps outscored ENMU 46-12 in the paint and 25-3 in points off turnovers. They assisted on 24 of 36 field goals, with Blair Taylor (five), Haley Fowler (five) and Haley Burton (six) assisting with at least five assists.

LCU surged early, going on a 24-3 run a minute into the contest to place the score at 27-5 with over 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Lady Chaps were 11-of-12 from the field during the run. LCU led as much as 54 points (84-30 with 8:10 remaining) in the second half.

Callie Sandusky produced a career-high 13 points to co-lead LCU offensively with Burton. Hannah Harbin (12 points), Kellyn Schneider (11 points), Bailey Haist (11 points), Blair Taylor (10 points) and Szabo (10 points) joined Burton and Sandusky in double figures. No LCU player played more than 23 minutes.

ENMU did have some positive numbers despite the lopsided result. Texico, Texas twins Jaylyn Cooper (3-of-7) and Jordyn Cooper (3-of-5) combined to go 6-of-12 from three-point range. Jordyn led ENMU with 11 points.
