LCU Opens Serve With Newman at Home to Open Second Half of Conference Play

Lady Chaps and Jets are Each 3-3 in Conference

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 19, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals, who is amidst a stretch of seven home matches during an eight-match span, opens a string of five straight home matches Thursday hosting Newman inside Rip Griffin Center. The contest marks the start of the second half run against Heartland Conference opponents for LCU, who is 6-13 overall and 3-3 in conference. The 3-3 conference mark has LCU entering the week tied for third place in the conference standings, alongside St. Edward's and Newman.

• The Lady Chaps are 6-5 against Newman in the all-time series, winning both matches last season. The prior meeting this season (Sept. 22) resulted in a 3-0 Newman win in Bel Aire, Kan.
• Newman has made Heartland Conference Tournament appearances the three prior seasons and are preseason picked fourth in the Heartland Conference, receiving one first-place vote. They are currently tied for third place with LCU and St. Edward's with a 3-3 mark.
• The Jets head into Thursday coming off a 3-0 loss on Oct. 12 to Arkansas - Fort Smith and have dropped four of their last five matches.
• Newman leads the Heartland Conference in aces with 117. Reagan Roth ranks third in the conference and leads the team with 22 aces. They produced four against LCU in the prior meeting, with Kayla Turner producing three of the team's four.
• Megan Pedersen is fifth nationally with four triple-doubles on the season.
 
GAME NOTES
• LCU enters Thursday's play riding an eight-match conference home win streak dating back to last season. The Lady Chaps lost to Arkansas – Fort Smith in their Heartland Conference home opener before winning six straight to complete a 6-1 conference home record last season. They are 2-0 in conference play at home this season.
• The Lady Chaps rank 59th in digs per set (17.7), with Kelsie French ranking 11th individually with 6.1 digs per set. She is 23rd nationally in total digs with 429.
• Freshman Jaiden Kennedy ranks fourth in the Heartland Conference in total blocks (64) and ranks fifth in blocks per set (0.93).
• Of LCU's 19 matches, they have only won the opening set four times.  They are 4-0 this season when winning the opening set (2-13 when losing the opening set).
Camille Porco has produced season highs in blocks over the prior two matches, as she topped a season-high mark of four (against Dallas Baptist) with five in LCU's prior match (a 3-1 loss on Oct. 10 at Midwestern State).
Channing Stewart has 29 kills in her prior two combined matches, with a mark of 19 (vs. Dallas Baptist) and 10 (vs. Midwestern State) in those matches. She had not produced double figures in kills prior to her current two-match stretch.
