LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (6-0-2, 3-0-1) at
WEST TEXAS A&M (6-2-0, 2-1-0)
Wednesday, October 6 – 7 p.m.
The Pitch – Canyon, Texas

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • Lubbock Christian enters Wednesday's matchup with a 6-0-2 overall record, including 3-0-1 in the Lone Star Conference, which they lead with 10 total points
  • The Lady Chaps have the third-lowest goals against average in the LSC at .50 and have not allowed more than one goal in any game so far this season
  • West Texas A&M has the highest-scoring offense in the league, averaging 3.75 goals per game. They have tallied multiple goals in six of the eight games this season
  • LCU goalkeeper Hannah Wise has allowed just one goal in over 400 minutes of action, and her save percentage of .950 is the second-best among all NCAA D-II goalkeepers
  • The Lady Chaps have collected 14 individual assists on their 16 total goals this season. Allison Scott leads the team with three, but three other LCU players have at least two

TRIFECTA
When the Lone Star Conference announced their weekly awards for games played Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, there were a lot of familiar Lubbock Christian faces. In fact, all three awards for the week were claimed by Lady Chaps. Allison Scott was named Offensive Player of the Week, Shadiana Haney claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors and Hannah Wise was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week. It was the first time this season that LCU claimed any of the conference awards and it is the first time this season that one program has claimed all three awards in the same week.

DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE
It has been 243 minutes and 41 seconds since the LCU defense last allowed a goal. They posted back-to-back shutouts last week against both UT Permian Basin and Dallas Baptist. The last goal allowed by the Lady Chaps was in the 27th minute of the Sept. 25 game against Texas A&M-International. The Lady Chap goals against average of .50 not only leads the LSC, but ranks No. 16 among all Division II teams. They are allowing just 10.4 shots per game, and only 47 percent of the opponent shots have been on goal. The Lady Chaps have applied this defensive pressure all while committing just 6.75 fouls per game, which is the fourth-fewest in the league.

A WORD TO THE WISE
Besides the stellar play of the back line, led by captains Haney and Madison Mayben, goalkeeper Hannah Wise has played a large part in the success of LCU's defense. She has a goals against average this season of just .215, which leads the LSC and is the fifth-best among all D-II goalkeepers. Wise has been a starter pretty much since she walked on campus, posting a career goals against average of .83 and save percentage of .773. Earlier this season, she passed a career milestone with her 200th save in an LCU uniform.

NATIONALLY KNOWN OPPONENT
For the second-straight game, Lubbock Christian is taking on an opponent ranked in the United Soccer Coaches national top-25, as West Texas A&M enters the matchup ranked No. 21. When they earned the road win at DBU this past Saturday, the Patriots were ranked No. 12 nationally, and it was the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent. Lubbock Christian has not had many other chances against ranked opponents in program history, but they did draw a point in Heartland Conference play on Sept. 4, 2017, when they fought to a 0-0 draw against No. 5 St. Edward's.

RIVALRY ON THE RANGE
Wednesday night's matchup will be the second in the Rivalry on the Range series for the 2021-22 school year. Announced on August 6, 2019, the Rivalry on the Range is a year-long competition including 15 sports in which the two schools will compete against one another. The Rivalry on the Range series scoring components will include head-to-head battles in men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball, with additional points available in postseason play. Fans can review the scoring system and follow the standings on rivalryontherange.com.

ROAD JOURNAL
Lubbock Christian enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-0-1 record on the road, having collected wins against CSU-Pueblo and Texas A&M International and Dallas Baptist. LCU is averaging 1.75 goals and 14.0 shots per game on the road. They have held opponents to .75 goals and 13.2 shots per game away from home.

SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
  • WT is coming off a 3-2 win against Texas A&M-Commerce and also has an LSC win against UT Permian Basin. They lost a 5-4 decision against DBU for their only loss in league play
  • Hannah Kelley-Lusk is the conference leader in goals (1.50), shots (6.00) and shots on goal (4.00) per game. She has scored nine times total and also has four assists
  • Reagan Heelan has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties, positing a goals against average of 1.30 and save percentage of .771 in more than 550 minutes of work with a pair of shutouts
  • Defensively, West Texas A&M has allowed an average of 1.25 goals per game, which ranks in the bottom half of the Lone Star Conference
  • Chad Webb is in his 12th season at the helm of the WT women's soccer program, coaching at his alma mater since 2010

A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD:
  • Be the 106th in Lubbock Christian program history (105-74-20)
  • Be the 92nd under head coach Alex Denning (91-57-16)
  • Be the 115th of Denning's career as a women's soccer coach (114-90-19)
  • Be the Lady Chap's second win over West Texas A&M since the series started in 2013 (1-2-0)
