LOOKING AT ALASKA (FAIRBANKS)
- The Lady Chaps and Alaska Fairbanks have no prior history. LCU, entering the weekend without a match against an Alaska based program, will knockout competitions against both of Alaska's universities with intercollegiate athletics. LCU fell to Alaska Anchorage Friday.
- Alaska is picked to finish sixth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Nanooks went 18-12, 11-7 GNAC, in 2021, posting their most wins since the 1996 season.
- The Nanooks are 4-2 this season, as they opened the season last week in Hawaii going 3-1. They split a pair of matches against No.25 Chaminade. Alaska opened the season 3-0, marking their best start since 2017. They are 1-1 in Anchorage this weekend, falling to Point Loma and defeating Emmanuel 3-0.
- Jessa Long claimed GNAC Defensive player of the Week honors for her efforts last weekend. The Florida A&M transfer (also played at Marshall) posted 59 digs in four games. Her best performance came in the Nanooks' 3-2, five-set win over Chaminade (Aug. 19), as she posted 20 digs. She posted 3.93 digs per set on the week.
- Elizabeth Jackson (1.00 blocks per set) and Kristina Head (0.9 blocks per set) have the Nanooks with an average pace of 2.1 blocks per set as a team and have 44.5 in six matches.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 0-2 on the young season after falling to Alaska Anchorage (Thursday 3-0) and Pittsburg State (3-1 Friday). They last opened a season 0-2 in 2018 (and in 2013 prior), but they bounced back with a five-match win streak that season.
- Freshman
Lily Bickley is coming off her first collegiate double-figure performance in kills, as she posted 13 kills Friday against Pitt State. She is third on the squad (with 13 kills) in kills behind
Sage Chain (14) and
Kiana Fallaha, who has posted back-to-back career-high kill marks. Fallaha posted her first collegiate double-figure kill contest Friday with 10 kills.
-
Hailey Cournoyer produced a trio of blocks in her first match back with the Lady Chaps. She suffered a season-ending injury on January 26, 2021 (second game of the COVID-shortened season that was moved to the spring), which forced her to miss the remainder of that season and the entire 2021 season (the normal fall season).
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher notched a double-double (40 assists, 13 digs), to go along with a career-high five kills Friday against PSU. Ironically, Genenbacher's two double-doubles of her collegiate career have come in her second game played of the season. Last season, she had 12 assists and 10 digs against Bentley (Sept. 14, 2021) for her first collegiate double-double. Friday, her 40 assists and 13 digs were each career-high marks. This season, Genenbacher is averaging 9.14 assists and 2.57 digs per set.
-
Kendall Mahaney was two digs shy of a career-high mark Friday, posting 26 digs. She leads the team with 36 digs and is at a pace of 5.14 per set.
