LUBBOCK, Texas (September 3, 2022) – The final day of the 2022 Chap Classic has Lubbock Christian University competing in a pair of matches, as they open at 9 a.m. against Adams State University and close against Colo. Colorado Springs (UCCS) at 3 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.

LOOKING AT ADAMS STATE
- LCU is 4-0 all-time against Adams State. The Lady Chaps won the prior meeting 3-1, which was on Sept. 4, 2015 and was the 2015 season opener and at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas.
- Adams State is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), where they are preseason picked seventh in the conference. They went 11-16 last season, finishing in a share of sixth place in the RMAC (7-11).
- The Grizzlies are 2-5 to open the season, going 1-3 in Canyon, Texas last week and 1-2 in the Chap Classic. They have split their play in Lubbock, defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State Thursday before falling Friday to UT Permian Basin and UCCS.
- Opponents have a 63-32 advantage in serving aces over the Grizzlies. Adams State opponents average 2.74 aces per set.
- Anna Huggins (60) and Cindy Garcia (58) are two Grizzlies with over 50 kills for the season. Garcia also averages .83 blocks per set.
LOOKING AT UCCS
- Lubbock Christian and UCCS are meeting for the sixth time all-time and for the second consecutive season. LCU defeated UCCS in Colorado Springs last season (3-2) for the first meeting between the two teams in Colorado Springs. The win put LCU up 3-2 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1995. Three of the prior five meetings were neutral site matches.
- UCCS is a member of the RMAC and they are slated to finish eighth this season. They went 8-17 last season, with a 5-13 mark in RMAC play.
- The Mountain Lions, like Adams State, attended the West Texas A&M hosted classic last week in Canyon and went 2-2. They are 2-0 in Lubbock, collecting wins Friday over UT Permian Basin and Adams State, and they face Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday prior to facing LCU. Their two wins Friday marked the first time since 2019 that UCCS swept opponents in two straight matches (Westminster and New Mexico Highlands).
- Lauryn Babcock produced a double-double Friday against Adams State (35 assists, 10digs) and also served four aces. She combined for 67 assists in the two matches played.
- Lauryn Shockley posted her career-high performance against LCU last season, posting 26 kills in their 3-2 loss to LCU.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 3-3 on the young season and entering the match on a three-match win streak following a 3-1 win Friday over Fort Lewis College inside Rip Griffin Center.
- Freshman
Lily Bickley leads the team in kills through five matches of play, as she has 55 kills (14th in the conference) at a rate of 3.44 per set (10th in the conference). Bickley is responsible for 3.75 points per set (11
th in the LSC) and she ranks 19th in the LSC in hitting percentage (.287). Saturday against Alaska Fairbanks, she had an attack mark of .625 in the match. Since 2008, Bickley's attack percentage was the fourth highest produced by a Lady Chap and the highest since Jaiden Kennedy posted a .700 mark on October 11, 2018.
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher was named to the Seawolf Invitational All-Tournament Team last week in Alaska and she is off to a solid start at the Chap Classic. She is averaging 11.57 assists per set, .86 aces per set and 2.57 digs per set in the two matches in Lubbock. The sophomore is third in the LSC in assists (216) and fifth in assists per set (10.29).
- Sophomore Libero
Kendall Mahaney, who was two digs shy of a career-high mark last Friday against Pittsburg State (posting 26 digs), leads the team with 98 digs (fourth in the LSC and 28
th nationally) and is at a pace of 4.67 per set (fifth in the LSC and 21
st nationally).
- Saturday against Emmanuel,
Zoe Parker notched LCU's 10
th performance of five or more aces in a three-set match since 2008, and became the second Lady Chaps member to do it twice in the same span. Her production of five aces in the match tied for third (since 2008) for the most aces by a Lady Chaps member in a three-set match. Parker has 10 aces on the season, which ranks her sixth in the conference, and she also ranks sixth with 0.48 aces per set.
- LCU's top team category entering the weekend is ranking 56
th nationally in total blocks with a 29.0.
Sage Chain leads LCU ranking fourth in the LSC with a pace of 1.33 blocks per set (28 total on the season, ranking second in the LSC). LCU game-by-game individual records displaying solo blocks go back to 2008 and (in that span) no Lady Chap had recorded six solo blocks in a single match until Chain completed the task in three sets Thursday over Southwestern Oklahoma State. She topped her prior career high of four solo blocks, which she had done twice (she is the only Lady Chaps to have at least four solo blocks in multiple matches). She finished the match with seven total blocks (her career high is nine) and followed with seven more Friday against Fort Lewis.
