SAN ANGELO, Texas (September 8, 2022) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals open play in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Thursday facing University of Texas at Tyler in Junell Center at 3 p.m. The event is one of four LSC crossover events taking place, with all LSC squads involved, serving as a preview to the conference season, which gets underway next week. LCU will play three matches in San Angelo and all are non-conference contests against LSC programs.

LOOKING AT UTT
- The Lady Chaps and UT Tyler opened their all-time series during the 2019 season in Tyler, Texas, where the Patriots topped LCU 3-1 on Oct. 4, 2019. Their previous meeting (Oct. 21, 2021) marked their first ever meeting in Lubbock and UTT garnered a 3-1 win to take 2-0 all-time series lead.
- UTT was preseason picked third in the Lone Star Conference, with seven first-place votes received. They went 20-4 last season, with a 15-3 record in conference play. They qualified for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional last season.
- Like LCU, UTT enters play this week with a 4-4 record. After a 1-3 record at the Oredigger Volleyball Classic in Golden, Colo., the Patriots attended the Oklahoma Baptist Fall Tournament and went 3-1. Three of their four losses were to programs nationally ranked or receiving votes.
- Mikayla Ware is the go-to target for the Patriots this season. Ware ranks second nationally with a conference-leading 13.4 attacks per set. She is second in the LSC in points per set (4.8, 15
th nationally).
- UT Tyler is playing their first 13 matches of the season away from home. Their home opener is scheduled for Sept. 23.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU is 4-4 on the season and entering the match winning three of their prior four matches. They are coming off a 3-2 win over Colo. Colorado Springs, which moved them to 5-1 in five-set matches since head coach
Keith Giboney took over the program prior to last season.
- Lubbock Christian is 4-0 when winning the opening set of matches this season and they are 0-4 when losing the opening set of matches this season. The same statistic applies to the third set of matches.
- Freshman
Lily Bickley leads the team in kills through eight matches of play, as she has 72 kills (19th in the conference) at a rate of 3.43 per set (12th in the conference). Bickley is responsible for 3.46 points per set (16
th in the LSC) and she ranks 15th in the LSC in hitting percentage (.280).
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher totaled 171 assists, 31 digs, 10 aces, six blocks and six kills on the week last week at the Chap Classic. Genenbacher's top performance came in a win over UCCS, as she posted 63 assists (tied for the third-most in a match by a Lady Chaps member since 2008). The mark is the highest since Bradi Marshall distributed 64 against West Texas A&M on Oct. 30, 2018. She opened the week posting a match-high 39 assists and also added 10 digs against Southwestern Oklahoma State for her second double-double of the season and the third of her LCU career. Against Fort Lewis, she posted a series of career highs in the match, as she had a career-best four serving aces (tied for the fifth most in a LCU four-set match since 2008). The setter also contributed a career-high 42 assists. A record that remained two matches before she had her 63-assist performance Saturday. On the season, she is averaging 10.55 assists per set (third in the LSC and 19
th nationally), .45 aces per set (tied for seventh in the LSC) and 2.00 digs per set. The sophomore is second in the LSC in total assists (306), which is 21
st nationally.
- Sophomore Libero
Kendall Mahaney had 20 digs Saturday against UCCS to reach 20 or more digs for a third time this season., Mahaney leads the team with 137 digs (fourth in the LSC and 45
th nationally) and is at a pace of 4.72 per set (fourth in the LSC and 50
th nationally).
- LCU has two players in the top-5 in the LSC in aces, as
Kayton Genenbacher and
Zoe Parker are each tied for fifth in the LSC in aces with 13.
- LCU's top team category entering the weekend is ranking 53
rd in blocks per set (2.17) and 60
th nationally in total blocks with a 63.0.
Sage Chain leads LCU ranking second in the LSC with a pace of 1.31 blocks per set (38 total on the season, ranking second in the LSC). LCU game-by-game individual records displaying solo blocks go back to 2008 and (in that span) no Lady Chap had recorded six solo blocks in a single match until
Sage Chain completed the task in three sets and in the opening match of play on the week (against Southwestern Oklahoma State). Against Fort Lewis, she achieved seven blocks for a second consecutive match (10th-most in a four-set match since 2008 for LCU). In the final day of action in the Chap Classic, she opened the day lead LCU with 11.5 points against Adams State and finished with eight kills one block. She contributed a career-high mark in serving aces in the match (2). In her final match of the tournament, Chain posted eight blocks against UCCS, which is tied for the fourth-most in a five-set match since 2008. She posted 14 kills to go along with her eight blocks for 18.5 points tallied. On the week, her averages included 2.73 kills per set, 3.93 points per set and 1.6 blocks per set.

Kiana Fallaha is coming off a career-best 18-kill performance (against UCCS Saturday), which is a high by the Lady Chaps this season. Fallaha, who notched a .325 hitting mark in the win, produced her fourth double-figure kill performance of the season.
