No. 14 West Texas A&M Outlasts Lady Chaps in Five-Set Rivalry Thriller

Sikora’s Season-High 21 Kills and Bickley’s 19-Point Surge Highlight LCU’s First LSC Loss

CANYON, Texas (October 28, 2025) – No. 14-ranked West Texas A&M survived a five-set battle to hand Lubbock Christian University its first Lone Star Conference loss of the season Tuesday inside "The Box," taking a 3–2 victory (23–25, 25–23, 25–23, 20–25, 15–11). The "Rivalry on the Range" setback snapped LCU's 15-match win streak — its longest since 2008 — as the Lady Chaps fell to 19–5 overall and 11–1 in LSC play, while the Lady Buffs improved to 18–4 and 10–1.
 
Emilee Sikora recorded a season-best 21 kills to lead LCU, marking her second 20-plus kill performance this season and 14th double-digit effort overall. Lily Bickley added 19 kills and hit .447, while Camdyn Sears dished out 52 assists with 17 digs for her 16th double-double of the year. Abby Dominguez anchored the back row with 25 digs — her 10th outing of at least 20 this season.
 
Currie Marusak powered West Texas A&M with 19 kills and 22 digs, and Taytum Stow added 14 kills and seven blocks, while Emma Becker contributed 15 kills as WT hit .188 for the match.
 
Game Notes
» LCU produced 222 attack attempts, which is the seventh highest in the program's current rally scoring era (since 2008). The total is the second-highest mark of the season, behind a 231 mark on Sept. 6 against Missouri Western.
 
» Lily Bickley posted a season-best 19 kills and also had a season-high 22.5 points. She completed the kill performance on a .447 attack percentage. She notched her 55th double-digit kill performance of her career (16th of the season).
 
» Loss ended LCU's 15-match win streak (was fifth-longest active streak in NCAA Division II), which was their longest streak since a 16-match win streak in 2008. Loss also ended LCU's nine-match road win streak and was their first Lone Star Conference loss (11-1). The match closed out a five-match road trip, which LCU went 4-1 traveling over 2,500 miles. » Freshman Emilee Sikora set a season high with 21 kills (most by a Lady Chaps member this season) kills for her second 20-or-more kill performance of the season and her 14th match with at least 10 kills (has double-figure kill production in 10 of her last 12 matches played).

» The Lady Chaps dropped their sixth consecutive match against WT in the all-time series (fourth consecutive meeting in Canyon between the two programs). LCU was seeking their first win in "The Box" since Sept. 5, 2015 (LCU fell to 5-15 all-time in Canyon). WT extended their all-time series lead to 41-12-1 against LCU, and the meeting was the 13th needing a decisive fifth set (WT improved to 7-6 in decisions resulting in five sets played).

SET 1 | LCU 25, WT 23
Lubbock Christian started strong in the first set against West Tex. A&M, overcoming an early 1-0 deficit with a series of scoring plays, including a service ace by Olivia Elofsson and key kills by Payton Murray and Emilee Sikora. Lily Bickley contributed significantly with multiple kills to extend the Lady Chaps' lead to 8-3. Despite a rally by WT that tied the score at 20-20 (LCU let a 20-17 lead slip), the Lady Chaps regained control with consecutive blocks and a kill by Jade Workman to fuel a 4-1 run for a 24-21 lead. The set ended with a decisive kill from Workman, sealing a 25-23 victory for Lubbock Christian. Bickley led LCU with four kills and a solo block in the frame.
 
SET 2 | WT 25, LCU 23
Lubbock Christian began the second set with a service ace from Camdyn Sears, taking an early lead. The Lady Buffs quickly responded with a kill from Parker Gladhill, and a series of successful plays extended their lead to 8-4, featuring a notable block by Taytum Stow. The Lady Chaps fought back, with Bickley contributing several key kills, narrowing the deficit to 17-15. Despite a late push by Lubbock Christian, which included service aces and defensive blocks to bring the score to 23-22 (off an ace from Workman), WT secured the set 25-23 with a final kill by Currie Marusak. Sikora (5) and Bickley (4) combined for nine kills in the frame for LCU.
 
SET 3 | WT 25, LCU 23
The Chaparrals and WT engaged in a closely contested third set. The Lady Chaps initially claimed momentum with a 4-1 lead after consecutive kills by Sikora and Bryleigh Schweer. The Lady Buffs responded with a service ace from Emma Becker and capitalized on the Lady Chaps' attack errors to level the score at 4-4. Lubbock Christian managed to regain a slight edge, reaching 22-19 with an ace from Elofsson. However, WT surged back with a series of successful plays, including two kills by Kaycee Cavanaugh, to tie the set at 23-23. Cavanaugh's continued offensive efforts, along with a service ace by Hannah Pemberton, sealed the set for WT at 25-23. LCU lost the set despite a match-leading 15 kills in the set, with Bickley (5), Sikora (4) and Bryleigh Schweer (4) combining for 13 of the 15 kills in the set.
 
SET 4 | LCU 25, WT 20
In the fourth set, the Lady Buffs jumped to an early lead, with Becker and Stow contributing crucial kills. WT built a 15-6 lead before LCU responded with a 17-3 run for a 23-18 LCU lead. Bickley sealed the set with a decisive kill from Sears, ending the period at 25-20 in favor of Lubbock Christian. Sikora produced six kills in the set to lead LCU, while Bickley had four kills and a trio of blocks.
 
SET 5 | WT 15, LCU 11
The decisive fifth set between the Chaparrals and the Lady Buffs began with Sikora earning an early kill to put Lubbock Christian ahead. The Lady Chaps maintained a narrow lead, with Bickley and Payton Murray contributing key kills. However, WT rallied behind Stow and Cavanaugh, who each scored crucial points to level the score at 11-11, as LCU's 11-8 lead slipped away. Becker and Marusak closed out the set on a 7-0 run, securing a 15-11 victory for the Lady Buffs. Murray and Sikora co-led LCU with three kills each in the extra frame.
 
What's Next
Lubbock Christian returns home following its season-long five-match road trip to host Texas Woman's University on Friday at 6 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center. It begins a five-match homestand to close out the regular season.
