Sears Reaches 1,000 as Lady Chaps Clinch Postseason Spot with Win Over DBU

Freshman Setter Records Milestone 1,000th Assist as LCU Notches 21st Win and Extends Home Streak to Eight

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 1, 2025) – Freshman setter Camdyn Sears etched her name into the Lubbock Christian University record books Saturday, surpassing 1,000 assists for the season as the Lady Chaps clinched a berth in the 2025 Lone Star Conference Championship (tournament) and posted their 21st win of the year — their highest single-season total since 2018 — with a 3–1 victory (25–21, 25–15, 22–25, 25–20) over Dallas Baptist inside Rip Griffin Center.

The victory, LCU's eighth consecutive at home, lifted the Lady Chaps to 21–5 overall and 13–1 in LSC play, maintaining their place atop the conference standings and reinforcing their control of the race for the top seed in the upcoming league tournament.

Sears directed a sharp offensive rhythm with 40 assists and 11 digs, marking her ninth straight double-double and becoming just the second freshman in the rally-scoring era (since 2008) — and ninth setter overall — to reach 1,000 assists in a single season. LCU also dominated the net, producing 11.0 team blocks, their most in a four-set match this season.

Lily Bickley tallied 13 kills on a .385 hitting percentage while matching her season pattern with five blocks, her 57th career double-figure kill outing and 18th this year. Payton Murray produced a season high with 15 kills, and Emilee Sikora matched that total while matching a career-best four blocks. Bryleigh Schweer chipped in five blocks as LCU's balanced defense held DBU to a .147 attack mark.

Dallas Baptist (11–10, 5–8 LSC) pushed the Lady Chaps in stretches, capitalizing on a strong third set and steady back-row defense, but couldn't overcome LCU's front-line dominance or Sears' steady distribution late. Karly Wells had a match-high 19 kills and Lauren Witte added 12 kills in the losing effort.

Game Notes
»LCU produced 11.0 team blocks in the match, which is a season high for a four-set match. The last time they produced 11 blocks in a four-set match was Oct. 14, 2023, posting 12 against UT Permian Basin. Emilee Sikora notched a new career high with four blocks in the match.

» Camdyn Sears registered 40 assists and entered the game needing 20 to hit the 1,000 mark for the season and the freshman's career. Sears becomes the ninth LCU setter under the current rally scoring era (since 2008) to reach 1,000 assists in a single season, and is the second freshman to notch the mark. Bradi Marshall was the first freshman to complete the task and ended her 2018 freshman season with 1,075 assists.

» Lily Bickley posted 13 kills and for a third consecutive match, she achieved five blocks. The effort for Bickley, who hit .385 in the match, marked her 57th double-digit kill performance of her career (18th of the season).

» For a ninth straight match, Camdyn Sears registered a double-double, posting 40 assists and adding 22 digs for her 18th double-double of her freshman season.

» Freshman Emilee Sikora co-led LCU with 15 kills for her 16th match with at least 10 kills (has double-figure kill production in 12 of her last 14 matches played).

» Payton Murray, who had 14 kills Friday against Texas Woman's, now has double-digit kill production in consecutive games, as she co-led LCU with a season-high 15 kills Saturday.  Prior to the consecutive double-digit kill performances, Murray had gone eight matches without reaching double figures (Sept. 20 was her prior match with at least 10 kills). Saturday, she hit double figures for a seventh time this season and 34th of her career.

» The win improved LCU to 9-2 at home and have won eight consecutive home games.

» LCU's victory was their 21st of the season, which is their highest single-season win total since 21 wins in 2018.

» LCU has three matches remaining in the regular season. With No.14 West Texas A&M falling Saturday against Angelo State, it places each of the teams with an 11-2 record and behind 13-1 LCU, who controls their own destiny. ASU and WT each have a game-in-hand over the Lady Chaps. Saturday's win for LCU does secure a berth as one of eight teams claiming a spot in the 2025 LSC Championship (tournament), which will be hosted by the No.1 seed.

» The Lady Chaps ended a three-game losing skid in the all-time series against DBU and improved to 39-7 against the Patriots all-time (first win since Nov. 18, 2021). It was LCU's first win at home over DBU since Nov. 15, 2019, as LCU is 18-2 all-time at home against DBU.

How It Happened

SET 1 | LCU 25, DBU 21
Lubbock Christian shook off an early 11–5 deficit and stormed back behind a balanced offensive surge to claim the opening set 25–21. After DBU controlled the early tempo with a 7–1 run fueled by Karly Wells and Reagan Fifer, to go up 11-5, the Lady Chaps found rhythm midway through the frame behind setter Camdyn Sears, who assisted six kills during a 10–3 turnaround that tied the set at 16–16. Emilee Sikora powered the comeback with six first-set kills, including three during Schweer's service run that erased DBU's lead. Bryleigh Schweer also sparked momentum with two service aces and a pair of assists. LCU closed the set on a 9-4 scoring surge.

SET 2 | LCU 25, DBU 15
The Chaps gained an early advantage in the second set, with Bryleigh Schweer and Emilee Sikora contributing significantly to the score, driving the team to a 4-1 lead. The home team maintained their momentum, with Lily Bickley adding two quick kills, pushing the score to 6-3. Kyla Farnan produced an ace to cap a 4-0 run for a 10-3 LCU advantage. Despite a brief rally from DBU, the Chaps' defense held firm, with Sikora and Lily Bickley combining for a crucial block on Reagan Fifer to reach set point. Payton Murray then sealed the set with a decisive kill, ending the set 25-15 in favor of the Chaps. Bickley led LCU in the frame with four kills, as Sikora added three blocks.

SET 3 | DBU 25, LCU 22
The third set was tightly contested, with the Chaps and DBU exchanging points early on. Payton Murray initiated the scoring for the Chaps with a kill, setting the pace for the team. However, Lauren Witte of DBU responded effectively, contributing multiple points through kills, including a crucial one that gave the Patriots a 12-10 lead. The Chaps' efforts, led by Murray's consistent attacks, kept them in contention, narrowing the gap to 23-20. Despite a late push from the Lady Chaps, including a service ace by Abby Dominguez during the 5-0 run, DBU secured the set, 25-22, with a decisive kill by Aizlyn Dewberry. DBU had a 17-11 advantage in kills in the set, with Wells and Witte each with six in the frame. Murray had six herself to lead LCU in the set.

SET 4 | LCU 25, DBU 20
The Chaps secured a 25-20 win in the fourth set against the Patriots, highlighted by a sequence of pivotal plays. Emilee Sikora delivered five kills in the set, including at 6-4 and 8-5, contributing significantly to her team's momentum. Jade Workman and Bryleigh Schweer combined for a crucial block at 15-11, stifling DBU's attempt to close the gap (capped a 7-3 run). The set concluded with three consecutive attack errors, sealing the victory for the Chaps.
