LUBBOCK, Texas (September 2, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University middle blocker Kayson Reeves has been named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week following a standout collegiate debut, the conference announced Tuesday.
 
Reeves becomes the first Lady Chap to earn an LSC weekly honor during the 2026 season. LCU collected 11 conference weekly awards last season, including four LSC Freshman of the Week honors, all earned by Camdyn Sears. Sears also claimed the freshman honor following the opening week of the 2025 season.
 
A freshman from Judsonia, Arkansas, Reeves made an immediate impact on both sides of the net while helping LCU open the season with a 3-1 record at the Virginia Harris/Jeanie Miller Invitational in Gunnison, Colorado. The Lady Chaps began the season with three consecutive straight-set victories, marking their first 3-0 start comprised entirely of sweeps since 2011.
 
Reeves appeared in all 12 sets during the opening weekend and finished with 29 kills on 60 attacks with 10 errors for a .317 hitting percentage. She averaged 2.42 kills per set while adding 15 blocks for an average of 1.25 blocks per set. Her 15 blocks were all block assists, and she contributed 36.5 points, averaging just over three points per set.
 
The freshman helped anchor an LCU front line that limited its four opponents to a combined .140 hitting percentage. The Lady Chaps held New Mexico Highlands to a .093 attack percentage and Southwestern Oklahoma State to a .109 clip during a weekend in which Reeves ranked among the conference leaders in blocking.
 
Reeves delivered one of her most efficient performances in LCU's sweep of Sul Ross State, registering eight kills without an error on 11 attacks for a .727 hitting percentage. She followed with eight kills and a career-high six block assists in the Lady Chaps' sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Reeves matched the six blocks against unbeaten Western Colorado while adding a team-high seven kills. She closed the weekend with at least seven kills and six blocks in each of LCU's final two matches, totaling 12 block assists over those six sets.
 
LCU now turns its attention to the Barry Invitational in Miami Shores, Florida, where the Lady Chaps are scheduled to play four matches over the weekend, including three against nationally ranked opponents.
 
The trip begins Thursday at 5 p.m. Central against No. 1 St. Cloud State. The meeting will provide LCU with its first match against an AVCA nationally ranked No. 1 opponent since becoming an NCAA Division II member. The Lady Chaps have not faced a nationally ranked No. 1 program since Sept. 22, 2012, when they fell 3-1 to UT Brownsville/Texas Southmost College.
