LUBBOCK, Texas (September 26, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University rewarded its fans Friday with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's University in its long-awaited home opener after playing the first 12 matches of the season away from Lubbock. The Lady Chaps look to make it two straight at the Rip Griffin Center Saturday at 2 p.m., hosting St. Edward's in a Lone Star Conference matchup to continue the opening homestand.

LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters Saturday's Lone Star Conference matchup with St. Edward's at 6-7 overall and 2-1 in league play after defeating St. Mary's 3-1 Friday in its home opener. The Lady Chaps won 3-1 (28-26, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19) after opening the season with 12 consecutive matches away from Lubbock. LCU is now 1-0 at home and has won two of its first three conference matches, with victories over Sul Ross State and St. Mary's around a road loss at Western New Mexico.
 
- Friday's victory improved LCU to 14-4 in home openers since 2008 and gave the Lady Chaps their first home-opening win since 2024 after a seven-match home-opener winning streak was snapped last season. LCU went 11-3 inside Rip Griffin Center in 2025 and now turns around less than 24 hours later to host St. Edward's in the second match of its opening home weekend.
 
- LCU found a different path to victory against St. Mary's, winning despite being out-hit, out-killed and out-blocked. The Rattlers held advantages of .302-.246 in hitting percentage, 56-53 in kills and 10-4 in blocks, but LCU countered with a season-high 12 service aces. It marked the Lady Chaps' first win this season when their opponent posted the better hitting percentage and the first when being out-killed. The last time LCU won while trailing in all three categories was last season (Oct. 4, 2025), at St. Edward's.
 
- Serving proved decisive Friday, as LCU's 12 aces were its most since recording 12 against Cameron on Oct. 22, 2022 and its highest home total since posting 12 against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sept. 22, 2018. Six Lady Chaps recorded at least one ace, led by Ramsey Clark's career-high four and Haley Wheeler's career-best three. LCU now has 70 service aces through 13 matches and is averaging 1.67 per set.
 
-  Camryn Blair continues to lead LCU offensively after producing 16 kills on a .414 hitting percentage against St. Mary's. Blair recorded seven kills on 10 swings in the fourth set alone and finished with 17.0 points. She now has 121 kills through 39 sets and averages 3.10 per set, while her six double-figure kill performances this season include four over her last seven matches. Her season high remains 17 kills against Converse.
 
- Freshman middle blocker Kayson Reeves established a career high with 12 kills against St. Mary's, reaching double figures for the second time this season. Reeves added two service aces and three blocks to finish with 16.0 points. She now has 91 kills while hitting .282 and leads the Lady Chaps with 35 total blocks. Her previous career high in kills was 10 against No. 21 Lynn.
 
- Camdyn Sears directed LCU to 53 kills Friday with 37 assists while adding four kills and seven digs. The performance ended her streak of four consecutive double-doubles, but she still has six this season and 29 during her LCU career. Sears enters Saturday with 346 assists and is averaging 8.24 per set while contributing 127 digs, second-most on the team.
 
- Leigh Jespersen reached a pair of career milestones against St. Mary's. Her four kills pushed her to 100 for the season, giving her at least 100 kills in each of her three collegiate seasons, including her first two at Hardin-Simmons. She also surpassed 500 collegiate kills during the match. Jespersen enters Saturday with 100 kills, 83 digs and 13 service aces this season.
 
- LCU enters Saturday averaging 11.55 kills, 10.40 assists, 14.17 digs, 1.67 service aces and 1.67 blocks per set while hitting .162. Blair leads the team with 121 kills, Sears has a team-high 346 assists, Clark leads the back row with 134 digs and Reeves leads the front row with 35 blocks. LCU's 70 service aces now match the total it has allowed opponents through 42 sets.
 
- Saturday's matchup brings together two teams tied at 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. LCU and St. Edward's join Western New Mexico and Midwestern State in the group immediately behind the remaining unbeaten conference teams entering Saturday. The Hilltoppers arrive in Lubbock at 7-6 overall after sweeping Midwestern State on Friday, while LCU is seeking its first 2-0 home weekend of the season.
 
LOOKING AT SEU
- The Lady Chaps and Hilltoppers are meeting for a 30^th time all-time, as LCU has a 19-10 all-time advantage in the series (dates back to the 1987 season). LCU has won the previous four meetings, including a 3-1 win in the last meeting (Oct. 4, 2025 in Austin). Like St. Mary's LCU has only hosted SEU once since 2019, as five of the last seven meetings have been in Austin. LCU is 7-1 all-time at home against the Hilltoppers, with a 7-0 all-time record in Lubbock in regular season play, as SEU's lone win in Lubbock was on Nov. 9, 2018 during a Heartland Conference Tournament match. Four of the prior six meetings resulted in five-set decisions (all four are LCU wins).
 
-  St. Edward's enters Saturday's match at LCU with a 7-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Lone Star Conference play after sweeping Midwestern State 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 on Friday in Wichita Falls. The Hilltoppers have now won two of their first three conference matches, with victories over UT Permian Basin and Midwestern State around a four-set loss to Angelo State. Friday's win was also St. Edward's first true road victory of the season, improving the Hilltoppers to 1-2 away from home.
 
- SEU produced one of its strongest offensive performances of the season against Midwestern State, finishing with 47 kills and a .327 attack percentage while holding the Mustangs to .157. Kaylen Lembcke and Mia Clay led the attack with 14 kills apiece, with Lembcke hitting .500 and Clay .464, while Kelli Fording added 12 kills. The Hilltoppers were especially sharp in the second set, recording 20 kills against only three errors and hitting .447.
 
- Junior setter Althea Morris continues to direct a balanced St. Edward's offense. She recorded 42 assists on 47 kills against Midwestern State and now has 516 assists while averaging 10.32 per set. Fording leads the Hilltoppers with 162 kills and averages 3.68 per set, while Clay has 101 kills at 2.89 per set and Lembcke has 102 at 2.49. St. Edward's is averaging 13.36 kills and 12.14 assists per set while hitting .197 as a team.
 
- Giselle Ojeda anchors the St. Edward's back row with 216 digs and a 4.32-per-set average after recording a match-high 16 digs against Midwestern State. Bella Briceno added 11 digs Friday and has 93 on the season. The Hilltoppers average 14.76 digs per set, while Grace McDonald leads the front-row defense with 31 total blocks. St. Edward's has been stronger offensively than at the net defensively, averaging 1.18 blocks per set while opponents are averaging 2.28.
