All-time Series: LCU leads 51-11
History between Lubbock Christian and Wayland Baptist
The rivalry between the Lady Chaps and Pioneers began in 1991. Prior to the match on September 29th of this season where LCU won in four sets, the squads last faced off during the 2012 season. LCU has won 51 of the 62 contests, and the squads have split the last eight meetings.
Last meeting amongst the squads
Plainview, Texas (September 29, 2015) – Less than two points separated the first three sets between Lubbock Christian University and Wayland Baptist Tuesday night at the Hutcherson Center before the Lady Chaparrals wrapped up set four to take the match victory (26-24, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20) of the old Sooner Athletic Conference rivals. Tonight marked the 62nd meeting of the Lady Chaps (8-6, 3-2 Heartland) and Pioneers (14-4, 4-1 SAC), with LCU entering the contest owning a 50-11 series advantage. The squads had not faced one another since LCU had made the transition from the NAIA into the NCAA. The Pioneers took the last win between the teams back in 2012.
Newman trip highlighted by win versus Tarleton State
WICHITA, Kan. (October 24, 2015) – A career-high 17 kills by Ariel Froeschl and a career-best 57 assists from Mallory Powell were not enough to overcome second-place Newman in a five-set showdown (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 12-15) Saturday afternoon inside Fugate Gymnasium, but the Lady Chaparrals rebounded with a four-set victory (25-17, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21) over Lone Star Conference leader and regional force Tarleton State. Today's Newman win gives the Jets (20-6, 9-2 Heartland) a season sweep over the Lady Chaps (13-9, 7-5 Heartland), but LCU still hangs onto fourth place within the conference with a half-game lead over Texas A&M International for the final spot in the conference tournament. While the win against TSU (20-4, 8-1 Lone Star) does not have any conference implications, it is a high-quality victory against a team that is currently receiving votes in the national rankings.
