All-Time Series: LCU leads 5-0

The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals close their 2014-2015 season Saturday in Laredo, Texas facing Texas A&M International University at 1 p.m.

A Lady Chaps win or a loss by Arkansas – Fort Smith (against Rogers State) Saturday would clinch the outright Heartland Conference regular season title for Lubbock Christian. LCU enters the game 15-2 in conference and 21-6 overall. They had their 13-game win streak snapped Thursday in a 67-59 loss at St. Mary's University.

The Chaps have clinched the opportunity to have the best regular season record in the conference, which marks the fourth time in program history that they have or share the best record in their conference. LCU finished in first place in the Heartland Conference last season and had two prior conference regular season titles in the Sooner Athletic Conference. With LCU not eligible for postseason play, Saturday's game will serve as their final game of the season and it closes the careers of LCU seniors Haley Burton and Callie Sandusky.

Dec. 18, 2014 (Odessa, Texas) - LCU: 87 / TAMIU 68
Kellyn Schneider recorded her first double-double as a member of Lubbock Christian University, with 14 rebounds and 12 points, and LCU produced 59 rebounds en route to an 87-68 victory over Texas A&M International in each team's Heartland Conference opener Thursday night inside Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps were coming into the contest following a loss Saturday at No.24 Midwestern State in which they attempted six three-point field goals, which was the lowest amount attempted by the Lady Chaps under head coach Steve Gomez's  coaching tenure (12th season). They fired up 30 long distance shots Thursday and knocked down 13 of them (43.3%). Seven different Lady Chaps had at least one three-pointer. LCU opened the game making their first seven three-point field goal attempts. The mark spanned the opening 10 minutes of the game and capped a 28-14 lead for LCU.

With the outcome never in doubt, LCU relied on their bench much of the second half. Schneider, a Texas Tech transfer, recorded a career high in points (12) and added 14 rebounds for her first double-double since joining the Lady Chaps. She completed the task in 21 minutes of playing time. Allison Szabo also added 12 rebounds to help LCU to their season high 59 rebounds. The 59 rebounds was three shy of tying the Rip Griffin Center record.

Burton also contributed 8 assists. LCU was an impressive 90.9% from the free-throw line, going 20-of-22 from the line.
