LCU Heads To Oklahoma For Non-Conference Action

Lady Chaps Completing Home-and-Home Season Series With SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (October 15, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University (11-8) travels to Weatherford, Okla. on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma State University. LCU is coming off of a 3-2 victory against Midwestern State University on Thursday night. The Lady Chaps look to go 2-0 on the year against the Bulldogs of SWOSU, as LCU swept the first meeting 3-0 in Lubbock on Sept. 6. This contest kicks off a six-match road trip for the Lady Chaps in which they will compete in five Heartland Conference contests.

- This will mark LCU's fourth overall meeting against SWOSU and the second of the season for the squads. Lubbock Christian owns a 3-0 record against the Bulldogs and all three victories have come in the form of 3-0 sweeps. The two sides last met on Sept. 6 of this year.
- SWOSU competes in the Great American Conference (GAC), where they are preseason picked third in the conference. Southwestern Oklahoma State comes into this match after a 3-0 loss to #10 University of Central Oklahoma.
- The Bulldogs will have a short turnaround before their game against the Lady Chaps as they take on Arkansas Tech University at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Their match against LCU will mark their third game in two days.
- SWOSU is currently sitting in eighth place in the Great American Conference with a 3-4 conference record. The Bulldogs are 0-3 at home for the 2016 season.
- Carly Zak leads the Great American Conference in five different categories: Attacks per set (11.91), 15th nationally; Kills per set (4.28), 15th nationally; Points per set (4.82), 14th nationally; Total attacks (810), ninth nationally; and total kills (291), 12th nationally.
 
GAME NOTES
- The Lady Chaps (11-8 overall) are 2-3 in road games this season and 7-6 against non-conference opponents.
- The Lady Chaps have outscored their opponents in every set except the first. They are 9-10 in opening sets this season.
- Mallory Powell was named The Heartland Conference Setter of the Week for the third time this season and second consecutively. Powell ranks second in the conference in assists per set (9.49) and total assists (636).
- Cory Jo Martin and Hannah Thomas made their starting debuts for the Lady Chaps on Thursday. Thomas grabbed seven kills and three digs while Martin recorded a career high five kills, 43 assists, and 8 digs for an astounding .417 attack percentage.
- Emily Hanaway is coming off of her fifth double-double of the season in which she recorded 16 kills, 15 digs, and 1 ace against Midwestern State. She currently ranks second in the Heartland Conference in total attacks (668). She also ranks third in the conference in attacks per set (10.06), kills per set (3.18), points per set (3.74), and total kills (229).
- Kelsie French ranks second in The Heartland Conference and 12th nationally with 414 total digs. French also ranks 18th in the nation with 5.67 digs per set.
- LCU leads the conference with 146 total team blocks.
- LCU's 3-2 win over Midwestern State marks the fifth time this season that they were taken to five sets. Their victory over the Mustangs puts them at 3-2, this season, when playing to a fifth set.
